I like crows and have been trying to get a good shot of them for a long time. The light right now is very useful since the sun never gets too high and it helped light this guy well.

Nice work - the real tough thing with crows is their very blackness - it's hard to maintain the blackness, and yet show any form - something you've done by showing shininess.

Thanks Russ. It seems that reducing contrast in light room while upping the shadows and clarity does the best job.

I think the best job is you finding the right light to give the post-processing a chance to work. :-)

Yes, Russ. That is what is good about this time of year. Next week the sun's highest will be at about 17 degrees so it's always the "golden hour" and the light isn't harsh and from over head. I was walking all around the pond this morning (until my hand got numb) trying to be "up-sun" from the ducks.

Yup. We're still out on the road, in Bandon OR tonight. It's crazy cold here, hasn't been above zero all day, but the light is amazing. This year, we've travelled later into the fall than any other year, which has presented some serious travel challenges - especially the escape from Santa Fe just ahead of the Thanksgiving Storm of the Century - but the light has been amazing the whole time we've been out.

Very nicely done, Paul. Crows and ravens are amazing creatures. This shot does them, and you, proud.
