Description: This event commemorates the 448th anniversary of the landing of Admiral Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles, Founder's Day and the First Thanksgiving taking place at the Mission of Nombre De Dios and the Fountain of Youth.
We will meet at 9:00am at the Mission of Nombre De Dios. At 10:00am there will be a re-enactment of the landing of Menedez. From approximately 10:15 to 11:45 will be a Catholic Mass at the Rustic Altar. During this time we will take the opportunity to go to the Fountain of Youth (individuals can of course stay but please be respectful, the re-enactors at both sites will be observing a period of silence). After the religious ceremonies, Menendez' entourage will proceed to the Fountain of Youth where they will be welcome by cheers, flag waving, and a set of volleys by small arms and artillery. At approximately 12:30pm the procession will arrive at the site for a re-enactment of the First Thanksgiving.
During the day members of the Men of Menendez will present living history demonstrations of weapons, material culture, military drills, and camp life in the 16th.
Come on out for what is going to be an excellent opportunity to photograph to 2 photogenic sites and historic re-enactments.
