I'm putting together a commercial photoshoot for Saturday, January 5. I have secured a location on the campus of the University of Arizona. I'm currently in the process of contracting with models and extras to be part of the shoot.

The shoot will focus on learning how to operate a photoshoot specifically for commercial imagery. The models and extras will all sign iStockphoto model releases, allowing photographers to upload images from the event to iStockphoto.

The 3-hour shoot is open to any member of the Tucson Photo Meetup. The cost will be $20 per attendee. It should be a great time, with lots of opportunities to build up a stock photography portfolio, to learn about commercial photoshoots, to work with models, to work with studio lighting, and more.

    •  Thanks to all who came out and made this event so much fun. I hope you all got something useful out of it. I'll get the model releases to you all very soon.
    •  There were multiple agendas happening today for the attendees. Those who do lots of stock photography were really focused on "their" shoot. Others were hopeful for the experience to be mores of a tutorial as our experience at photography (whether we are professional or amateur) is in another aspect (ie, nature, photojournalism, etc). I think what would have made this event better would have been for the different stations to have separate focuses...one for the "serious" stock photographer, one for the folks who wanted to get a hands-on experience to learn more about lighting. The end, it was moreso a free-for-all. I felt I could not really use the time of the more experienced lighting folks stuff as their focus of being there was for their work/business. It was a great concept, Ethan, but not fully thought-out or organized to meet the needs of the diverse group of photographers present. I'm not interested sport photo or stock but simply wanted an opportunity to increase my skills.
    •  I was hoping for a more organized learning event. I was specifically interested in learning more about studio lights and how to set them up etc. when working with models. I felt this event would help me become more proficient in doing portrait work so I was hoping for more of a hands on instruction.
    •  Sad to see that some of the models didn't show. I learned so much. I can't wait until the next one!
    •  I really enjoyed meeting everyone. Not knowing the group I did not know what to expect. The dynamics changed with the lack of models (an unfortunate thing) but everyone seemed to jump in and work the stations. That sort of thing doesn't work for everyone, I am sure, but I hope everyone took away something from this event. I enjoyed being there to share my equipment and the little (yet growing) knowledge I have.
    •  The event was fun and educational (one of the models even gave me some pointers). What a wonderful group of people! Everyone was generous enough to teach me and allow me to use their equipment. I would not have been able to capture the awesome images if it wasn't for them. A special thank you to Jamie, Ethan and Brandon.
    •  Great event. Learned a LOT!
