Model shoot & Lighting workshop 1

If you missed any of our model shoots earlier in the year, you won't want to miss this event! This is the first of a series designed to train your eye, improve your photo comprehension and fill your portfolio with great photos. We'll have a live model for each group of 6 photographers and four different shooting spaces. Each photographer will get a chance to photograph each model without interference and also to shoot in each of our studio spaces. The theme will be single light source - guaranteed to please! Here is one of our models for this event:

I was (maybe mistakenly) under the impression that this would be a more creative, 'learn how to use the lights' studio class... The models were awesome, but I didn't really feel like I learnt anything... It was great for building a portfolio of images, but as a learning experience, I felt it was lacking. To echo other comments, things would have been a lot smoother if time constraints had been adhered to by everybody. Ed has a great space, and obviously has a wealth of knowledge & experience... wish I could have tapped into that more.

One more minute turned into 15 more minutes. Please be respectful of time and the other photographers. If one requires that much additional time ..then they should book the studio through Ed and talk to the models. Workshop was on point except for the time issue. Respect the models..they are people also..time issue.

Was pretty good. The only complaint was that a couple of people was using much more time than the 5 minutes allowed. When told they was not very hospitable to the person telling them there time was up and just kept on shooting pictures. Suggestion, We need a timer for each station.

First time in the studio setting. Nervous to 'direct' the models. But the other photogs and models themselves were more than willing to help a newbie out. Much appreciated. Only thing I would like to see, is for everyone to stick more to the time constraints. Station 3 had two full groups waiting at one point for the original group members to finish up.

I had a great time at the shoot and learned a lot. I'm looking forward to more of them! I uploaded some photos - yell if I uploaded too many. I would really appreciate some feedback on what you all thought worked and what didn't.

In reply to Damaris, I have a wordpress site (mine is www.leahgivens.com) and post photos there and communicate with other photogs. Just recently I heard about a place called 500px, which I'm investigating. And I didn't know about the 365 project, so I'll definitely check that out- thanks!

Couldn't get the online checkout to accept my paypal, but I'll be there tomorrow. Never had much desire to work in a studio, but information is information :)

Sasha, I've got all the lights we need in the studio, all you need bring is your camera. This is the first of a series, so we will start with the most basic setup - one light. But we will have several different kinds of light (hard, soft, even softer) and four different backgrounds to shoot. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Leah, we keep a model release covering the entire meetup group here at our world headquarters ;-) You'll have permission to display photos to promote yourself (website, contests, print material) but not to sell the photos for commercial use.

Hi- I've never done anything like this, but I was wondering if we would get (or could get) model releases in case we wanted to use the photos for anything. Again, I'm not sure how all this works! :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
