Q&A on Lightroom software with Mike

We often get questions on what to use for basic editing of pictures and the answer is often Lighroom from Adobe. Mike has offered to do a Q/A demo night for people who want to learn a little more about Lightroom.  If you have any questions you want answered, please leave a comment below.

As usual you can find Mike's musings on his blog (M&M's Musings) at http://www.wolfnowl.com/

Thanks to everyone for your kind words! Much appreciated. I added a note in the discussions, but Adobe released Lightroom 5.2 RC today, with bug fixes and new camera profiles.

I am just echoing what others have expressed here: it was a great introduction to Light Room and I appreciate your effort greatly, Mike!

I knew that Mike knew a lot about photography and post processing. I underestimated just how much. He spent a lot of his time for us preparing a night of education that was truly both enjoyable and highly informative. Thanks so much for your effort, Mike!!

Thanks very much Mike, really appreciated the presentation. I went home and started working with LR right away to organize my pix; even the keyword tag functionality has some quick and easy shortcuts.

Hi Folks: Thanks to everyone for coming out! I apologize if we didn't cover as much information regarding Lightroom itself as you may have wanted, but it's such an intensive program there was no way to really even scratch the surface in the time we had and I thought it was important to cover the fundamentals of what underlies digital photography before we got into what LR itself could do. If you're happy using whatever software you're using, if it does what you need it to do, then great! Otherwise, LR may be an answer for you.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me through the Meetup site, or you can find me on Twitter (@wolfnowl) or Google+ or through our blog (http://www.wolfnowl.com/) and I'll do my best to answer them. If you were there tonight and would like a copy of my presentation, contact me directly and let me know your e-mail address and I'll see about getting it to you.

    Mike.

P.S. One feature we didn't get into but which is important for a lot of LR users is the ability to batch process images. If you want to make the same changes to 2, 10, 100 or... images, in Photoshop you work on images one at a time. You can create a script to process images in sequence, but you're still only doing one at a time. In LR, if you want to set the same white balance for example on an entire series of images, it can be done in one step.

P.S. II, the sequel. If you go to http://bit.ly/LRTips you'll find a blog post that lists over 200 different websites with LR tips, tutorials, videos, etc. (including our blog). If you're wondering what's new in LR5, you can find links for just that as well.

Great. Really appreciate all the thought and effort that went into the preparation as well as the delivery. I'm a confirmed Lightroom enthusiast but I still picked up new ideas and tips.

I also have Photoshop Elements , and wonder how much different this is , certainly easier to use would be better.. I see it for sale for $30 to $150 , At the very least I could learn if it was something I should buy and use if I like its features
