So, does anyone want to be an event host for an evening? Basically what that means (for this event) is that you become a 'face' for the group, meet new people (if they seek you out) and answer (to the best of your ability) any questions about us and our meetups. The IEOA Lighted Trucks parade and the Lighted Ships parade are coming up, but I'm going to be approximately 7800 km away, so I might be a little late. The lighted trucks parade event actually starts down at Ogden Point around noon, where they will gladly accept your food bank donations. At dark the trucks will leave there, head east along Dallas Road to Oak Bay then back downtown before heading north and west toward Langford. More information is available here: http://ieoa.ca/?q=2011convoy The lighted ships parade is a convoy of boats circling the inner harbour. Meeting at the Empress is a good place to start because one can photograph the trucks as they head north on Douglas Street, then head down to the harbour to photograph the ships. Expect the trucks between 6:30 and 7:00, but it's best to get there early.
Now this will obviously be a night shoot, so you can either crank up the ISO and shoot wide open to capture the vehicles' lights, or you can go the other way, pan the camera and use a slow shutter speed to capture the lights as they go by. Or both. A monopod can be handy if you have one, and if it rains, bring an umbrella (and someone to hold it for you), or incorporate the raindrops on the lens into a smear of colour. Have some fun with it!
