Who knew there are so many ways to clean a lens and sensor! Great stuff!

Thanks for letting us know it is possible to do this sensor cleaning on your own. All we would get from the average camera shop is some smoke and mirrors and a huge bill. I love those gel sticks , how clever ! After spending time in the dry season on Costa Rica's west coast I need to know how to do this as there is no avoiding the dust in the air in places like that.

Very enjoyable evening ..heard some different ways to clean a lens and sensor ..tho I must admit I'm not too sure on Andrews Gel thingie..but that's progress I guess ..Thanks to all

Good presentation of helpful information, even with a basic camera cleaning each time you go out might improve your shots.

  • Clíona R.

Fascinating presentations. I still don't think I'm brave enough to attempt to clean sensors, but it's great to know what's possible and how it all works. Makes the whole question less like a big, black box. Thanks so much to Mike, Daniel, Andrew, and Mikhail for four very clear and accessible presentations, and for being so generous with your own experiences and suggestions. Thanks, too, to Bev Anne for suggesting the topic. Great idea!

    A few reminders:

    1. The event if full. We have members on the waitlist. If you have registered but cannot attend, please change your RSVP to NO as soon as possible, so that the wait-listed member has enough time to alter his/her plans and take your seat.

    2. If you are on the waitlist, please check your status online before the event: there might be some last-minute cancellations. If you do get the spot but cannot attend, please see above: cancel RSVP as soon as possible so that someone else on the waitlist can take your seat.

    3. We will have the attendance list at the event. Please make sure that you have checked in: otherwise you will be marked as a No-Show. According to the meetup guidelines, the membership will be cancelled after two No-Shows!

That's it: we look forward to seeing you on the 20th!

My plus one can't come. In the past when I have tried to change from +1 to just myself, I lost my place and was moved to the wait list. So, I'd say to the first person on the wait list come in place of my +1.

    1 · May 19

    • Cindy S.

Hi Virginia - looks like I am coming in place of your +1. I was first on the wait list and was just confirmed. See you tomorrow night.

      2 · May 19

    • Mikhail

Virginia -- thanks for letting us know about your +1! And you are right: canceling your guest may also affect your registration. I have increased the number of participants to 61 (with the room limit of 60), to give your guest's seat to the wait-listed person.

Thanks for arranging this session, but I am going to cancel. I was looking for a more hands on session and with that I am going to try to attend the kerrisdale session. Cheers and have fun!

Maria -- the short answer is that we don't know. The meetup waitlist is managed automatically on the first-come, first-served basis: as soon as someone already registered for this event changes RSVP to No, the member at the top of the waitlist automatically gets in. You are currently number 8 on the waitlist. If eight already registered people cancel their RSVP, you will get in. I suggest keeping the evening free and checking this site to verify your status. Every time someone from the waiting list gets a seat, the meetup system automatically sends this person email saying that you have registered for the event. However, not all members have subscribed to automatic and immediate email updates, so it is best to check your status online. Usually, lots of cancellations happen closer to the event, so being flexible and ready to go on a short notice would be a good approach, in my view.

Responding to posts by Jo-Ann and Philip: this is going to be an equipment cleaning demonstration meetup, not a cleaning workshop. Considering the large number of participants and the limited time, it is not feasible to involve participants into the cleaning process. We will show various techniques and equipment for cleaning cameras, lenses and sensors. If there is enough interest in a follow up hands-on workshop, we can certainly consider scheduling it on a different date, with participants bringing their own cameras & lenses, and least some cleaning supplies.

Thanks for the detail, Mikhail. Sounds ideal, having the overview you describe. I know I'd never be brave enough to try cleaning sensors on-the-spot.

  • Jo-Ann Nuttycake Way E.

I hope its hands on that would be awesome

    May 4

  • Philip J.

I'm assuming from the size of the group that this will be a lecture style presentation vs. a hands on where we bring our own cameras.

Unfortunately I have to change my RSVP. May 20 is first birthday of my daughter.
I hope that the topic will be repeated in the future.

This is a great idea. It would be great to take the fear out of cleaning my own equipment.

Thank you Beth and Mikhail this is one that I need to know how to do badly. My cameras get so dirty and I am always changing lens in the tent and on the sand. I actually had salt deposits in my spare camera till I paid to have it cleaned.
