PHOTO.101 Class

Photo101 is a class for those students just beginning to learn the nitty-gritty of photography. Perhaps you've been shooting for years, maybe even decades, but have moved to digital photography and need to start at the beginning in photography education, or maybe you've just never had the proper instruction to give you the tools you need to achieve maximum creativity.

We will begin with defining the lingo of photography (shutter speed, aperture, focal length, depth of field, etc.) and move finally into simple one-light setups and other creative projects. Each class we will also view the work of one photographer who's work has become widely known and recognized, so as to build the knowledge of photography, historically.

This is a 5-month cumulative session, but feel free to come to the one class you need, or come as a full course. There will be simple photo-homework assignments for those who choose to do it as a 5 month course to ensure that the information you've learned stays with you!

Topics Covered:
• Overview of photography tools: cameras, lenses, etc.
• Understanding white balance.
• Understanding pixels, RAW, jpeg, etc.
• Exposure: understanding the mix between lens aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how that sets your exposure, and how to use these settings creatively.
• Settings on your digital camera.
• All those buttons!
• How to avoid all of the typical novice mistakes.
• Elements of a photograph: composition, juxtaposition, theme, symmetry, geometry, etc.
• Lighting- how to use simple one-light setups (flash and constant) to change the look.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
