All aboard - The Photoshop Train has arrived.

I just started this Meetup Group so please be patient with me as I develop this. One of the first events I plan to organize is an intensive on Adobe Camera Raw. We will cover off everything from importing your Raw files to your hard drive to understanding what each and every Tab in the Adobe Camera Raw interface is for and what all of the tools are capable of doing in order to help you enhance your images. We will discuss a variety of workflow scenarios whether it be for outputting to PDF, the Web or for Printing.

I am hoping to appeal to three different groups as far as time schedules are concerned:

Those that are available during the week day evenings

Those that are available during the week days - usually working photographers

Those that are available on weekends

There will be the occasional meet and greet but for the most part there will be a cost to the events that I plan to put on. I am still working on a reasonable price structure for my workshops and seminars.

I will have more info here over the next few days ...

Update for the First gathering of this new group -

************************************************

I think I would like this first gathering to be a "Meet & Greet". We can and will discuss any and all (well, maybe not all) things Photoshop this evening but more importantly, we will get to know each other before the actual learning begins in the Fee-Based Photoshop Workshops I plan to run.

So, what to bring with you the first night? How about your laptop with Photoshop installed on it, just so we can get it set up properly and maybe bring in some of your prints that you have either printed yourself or sent out to a Photo lab.

I was also thinking of offering the service (for a very nominal fee) of calibrating people's laptop computers but I have not yet heard back from anyone with regards to the Poll I posted on the weekend. Maybe nobody is aware that there is a Poll regarding Monitor Calibration. Hey EveryBody ... there is a Poll regarding Monitor Calibration on this site so please participate in the Poll so I know where everyone stands.

For those of you who are not familiar with Colour Calibration and specifically Monitor Calibration - if you plan to do any image related work on a computer and it does not matter how much or how little you plan to do, you really should have your monitor calibrated. To calibrate your monitor means to ensure that the colours you see on your computer screen are proper and as true as can be for your given device (laptop in this case).

Monitor Calibration devices cost anywhere from $99 to over $300 and the less expensive devices are not worth purchasing. There are two main reasons why most people do not have calibrated monitors; one - people are not aware that this needs to be done and two - what non-professional photographer is going to spend that amount of money for a device that is used monthly, quarterly or semi-annually? Im my opinion; very few people will spend this amount of money on something they really do not understand and will use a few times per year at best.

For that reason I have decided to offer the service of calibrating monitors for $10.00 per laptop computer if people are interested in having it done, if not, that is fine as well.

This is something that I would like to offer during the "Meet & Greet" nights, which could also be Saturdays or Sundays, depending on Studio availability for weekends.

Let me know if you are interested in having your laptop monitor calibrated A.S.A.P. so I may plan an event for this - who knows, maybe we can do this on the Feb 16th Meetup.

I have so many good things about John. He is just about the most knowledgeable person I have met about Photoshop and photography.

Of course I am going to say it was a 5 Star event, I am the organizer. Although many people indicated that they would show up only 2 Meetup members showed up but also, a few of my former Humber College evening students dropped by to see the studio firsthand for themselves.
For those that did attend, I helped them either get Photoshop set up properly for photography and/or calibrate their laptop computer(s).

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
