Terror behind the walls at Eastern State Penitentiary!!!

This could be a bunch of fun.  I'm not sure how great the pictures will be, but we can test out the low light capabilities of our cameras.  Purchase your tickets online now - http://www.easternstate.org/halloween/visit/schedule-prices - $19.

I've been to the penn a few times - strictly as a tourist. This event is going to be very hard to photograph. Once inside, you are on a tour and your movements are limited. it is very structured and crowded - and unless we remove ourselves from the tour and hang out in the public gallery (food / shop stalls), we won't have any chance to take pictures. They'll keep you in a tight line and press you to move forward. They might not allow us to setup tripods at all - anywhere. The tour is dark, people are pushing, screaming, running, etc. I would call the Penn and see if they would allow us on site to take photos only - but not actually GO on the tour. *Unless people want to just go out together and have fun. Then by all means - add me to the screaming-meemy group!* As a side note, the exterior is crowded with people, they have costumed folks entertaining the crowds in line, and the walls are lit nicely. We may be able to just do an exterior shoot to play with low lights and FX.

I would second Patricia's post. I am a member of ESP and the Terror Behind the Walls event is strictly a Halloween attraction. It gets VERY crowded and as Patricia states, they will push you along in a line. I wouldn't count on getting a whole lot of quality low light images. On the other hand, ESP is a fantastic place to shoot and is especially good for HDR technique and flash gels. It is dark enough inside there during the day to utilize the gels in the various cells. Good luck , have fun.

I have been shooting abandoned places for a quite bit. I actually went to eastern state last week and it was $24, due to $10 fee for a tripod. I noticed the time at 7PM. I highly suggest this time will not give you the pictures you want. The best time to take pictures in this kind of environment is when the sun is high. So roughly around[masked]

are they going to let us "try" to take pix?

Yep, from the web site, "Cameras are permitted, but flash photography is not allowed inside the haunted houses."

I bought my ticket online. They added service charges and a great bonus for Sept 27 tickets purchased online - a free day time adult ticket that can be used anytime during the next 12 months. Day hours are 10 to 5 so even using it the same day requires leaving by 5 pm and reentering at 7. I plan to save my ticket for another day.

OR - Scott - maybe they will let us go in and photo before the big 'halloween' setup? It's creepy enough in there that we can get great low-light photographs without tripping over the holiday crowd.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
