Illuminate Yaletown

This Vancouver event starts as soon as the sun sets on February 10th. Once dark, artists will light up their exhibits! Illuminate Yaletown is a free Vancouver event & winter festival, bringing contemporary light art installations throughout the streets of Yaletown. Come enjoy beautiful lights used in innovative ways, interact with exhibits, and capture Illuminations in photos.

Meet at 6:15 pm in front of the Keg restaurant located at 1011 Mainland, Vancouver.

There will be no official organizer for this event, but the meeting time and location is set up, and so that's all that's needed. The rest of the group fun is up to the team that joins! :)

There is a map at the bottom of this page showing where the artists will have their displays set up. Have fun !

I was a little disappointed with the event Yaletown put on, I was expecting more from it there really wasn't that much there. It was raining a little so that didn't help me as well. But was good to meetup and take a few shots while we could even with the rain and crowd in the way.

The intention of this group is firstly to learn and practise photography in various settings...how fun. Of course it is fun to meet people and share ideas and see new things. Our group will be a great group of people committed to learning photography, teaching photography, and having fun. Group members must own a SLR Camera, which is the type of camera where you can remove the lens and interchange it if desired. Ownership of a SLR camera is a requirement of becoming a member. Group get togethers will be 1 meeting every 2 weeks, on the weekend...Saturday.

Anyways, to describe this North Van Photography & Socialize meetup group more, here it is:
We can learn shutter speed and how it affects photos.
The aperture and how it affects the sharpness of photos, and also depth of field.
There's also stuff like using a flash to enhance photos, taking pictures of moving water at different shutter speeds, using your camera's ISO setting to get the right shutter speed for your lens' focal length (so photos don't turn out blurry, or too noisy).

If you have a macro/micro lens, perhaps we can experiment with very close up shots of flowers, bugs, and whatever.
Of course, one of the most interesting and fun photos is the Portrait style.
Actually, perhaps one of the most important features of making a good photo is composition. What do you enjoy seeing in a photo?
So, all in all, we will meet at great locations and take photos. Each day we will try to learn something that will teach us to understand how our camera works.

Anyone who is currently in a photography group that is not meeting as frequently as you wish, you are welcome to join, if you are committed to photography.

We are a group capturing the beauty in life.
