October PHP Meetup - "Meet The CTO"

  • October 14, 2010 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Welcome back to PHP Meetup! To kick start things back into gear we'll be hearing from people running successful web-related companies that use PHP as a core technology.

Keri Henare, CTO (and hopefully Craig Boxall, Director) of PixelFusion will be talking about building client websites with PHP - their favourite tools, frameworks, tricks of the trade, and running a successful web development business in Auckland City.

James McGlinn, CTO for EventFinder (and founding member of the PHP Users Group) has been active in the PHP community for many years. James will give a bit of a history of EventFinder, how to manage a large codebase and some of the challenges running a web based business with PHP.

Please RSVP as soon as possible - the venue will be determined once we get an idea of numbers.

Call for Speakers

Note that I'm putting the schedule together for the next 6 months. We'd like YOU to speak! We'd particularly like to hear from people on the following topics:

  • Training & Certification options for PHP
  • New PHP features, new development and code tools
  • Running PHP centric web development companies or websites
  • Web Design and PHP / Database development and PHP / other cross-discipline issues

If you have a new project about to launch, why not talk about what you did, what worked and what was challenging?

We think PHP meetup is neat! If you agree, why not help sponsor an event? It costs next to nothing and you'll get a mention at the start of our monthly meetup and a space to put an ad on the meetup website.

Nice to see what technologies are being used in practice. Also good to hear about scaling issues with business growth. It looks like both Pixel Fusion and Eventfinder have a bright future. A bit more question time would be better.

My first meeting. Really glad I went. Speakers were excellent and it was really interesting to hear James McGlinn of Eventfinder speak on not only the tools they are using but how they have approached business and the success they are having. Nice work. Was also good to hear the pixelfusion guys share their experiences re tools and recommendations. Came away with lots of notes of things to follow up on. Great night Hamish thanks for putting it together.

Great event. Nice casual atmosphere, but well run with interesting speakers. Free pizza always helps.

It was great seeing what tools other professionals in the industry are currently using and getting an insight into their development processes. I definately took away a few things to go research now and potentially add to my own future toolset.

These meetings are great for keeping up to date with what is useful and what is relevant in PHP development today.

A most enjoyable and informative evening. I arrived early for the meeting completely tired and exhausted after "one of those days" - by the end of the evening I left the meeting energised and enthused - all due to the quality of the presenters and their content and the number of interesting attendees.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
