Mike is an advocate for technology innovators focusing on mobile devices and applications, and an advocate for technology in Education that focuses on adaptive systems that match student learning needs.
A founder of two companies, Mike has also worked to launch new businesses at Microsoft and Amazon.A principal in 9 patent applications and contributor to many others, Mike works to find unique ways to disrupt the way things are traditionally done. Mike has also worked as a sponsor and a judge at technology startup events like AngelHack.
Mike Hines comes to Amazon after two startups (Hines Capital Management and Pengala) and 13 years at Microsoft, where he helped launch MSN Channels and Sidewalk. Mike has also helped design and launch innovative education software like Microsoft Class Server and SharePoint Learning Kit. As part of his work in Education software at Microsoft, Mike was able to address audiences at the British Education Technology Tradeshow (BETT), Blackboard World, and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE, formerly NECC). At Amazon, Mike helped launch the Kindle eInk app development project before joining the Amazon Appstore for Android team as an Evangelist.
In his role at Amazon, Mike has written mobile app test criteria, attended and judged at hackathons, written blog posts, and represented Amazon at AnDevCon events and other conferences. Moving forward, Mike hopes to connect with Android developers and help them be successful with their apps and bring their feedback back to Amazon to continuously improve their developer experience.
