Gravity and the State of Physics

We had a fantastic discussion meeting five months ago at Neto Café (now Olympus Café) in Mountain View. Per the requests from some of the attendees from the last time, we will be discussing Gravity and the State of Physics in this meeting: What exactly is gravity? What causes it? Is it simply the manifestation of curvature of space-time as stated by general relativity?

The meeting will have the same format as the last time -- open discussion moderated by me. All points of view are welcome and discussed respectfully. It will be fun! And hopefully enlightening at times.

(Sorry for the late notice. As I am busy on all weekday evenings, I have to grab this time slot as it opened up. I hope you can make it.)

The discussion was so interesting, fun, and at times enlightening that it was hard put a stop on the discussion when the venue closed, half an hour after the planned meeting end time. A very intelligent group of people, who raised interesting questions and have great insights in physics and the universe.

I'm no longer cowering outside the cave in the cold with the hungry SaberToothed cats. See you tonight!

I have received a notice that a slot has opened for tonight and to act quickly to take it, but I don't see how I am to reply and confirm.

Hi, Robert (and others): A glitch, or mistake on my part, happened when I copied the settings from other events, not knowing it was set up in a confusing and unfair way. Just ignore that email. The proper/fair way is to have the person sign up on the wait list the earliest to be moved to the RSVP list, which is how it is now. I apologize.

Due to the large number of people on the wait list even on such a short notice, I will consider have another meeting on the same topic soon, so everyone who likes to will have a chance to participate. Thank you all for your interest!

Hi, Gonzalo: I appreciate greatly your enthusiasm. However, please respect others who are on top of the wait list. Thanks! And I hope to see you in one of our events soon. Regards, Leon

Wow. All 12 spots were taken within a few hours this event was posted. As there are several people on the wait list, it is important that you show up if have a spot.

On Saturday, 30 March, I gave a talk at the 29th Pacific Coast Gravity Meeting at UC Davis. I would be happy to report on my impressions of the meeting (I attended every lecture) and perhaps to deliver a 20-minute talk on the subject of 'dark matter,' which is currently a major outstanding question in canonical gravitational physics. Two others are the development of compelling a quantum gravity theory and the search for empirical evidence of gravitational waves with LIGO and other instruments.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
