Tour at SLAC

As of this writing there are only 10 free tickets left - and going fast! (both for the 1:30 pm tour and for the 3:30 pm tour)

https://oraweb.slac.s...

Please note: There are two tours currently available! One is at 1:30 pm and one at 3:30 pm. Please feel free to sign up for whatever time best fits your schedule. We won't be able to really go as a group per sé this time around, since spaces are filling up so fast. I'm only putting this on the calendar, so people are aware of it and have a chance to sign up for the tour, if they can get in fast enough!

Tours at SLAC
Each tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours and includes a visit to the lab's 2-mile linear accelerator. Please see the Tours FAQ for more detail.

SLAC's tours are open to all visitors 12 years of age and above. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Student groups affiliated with an educational institution should visit our School Groups information page for specifics.

We hope to see you at SLAC soon!

@Athena - I found a way to extract the pictures from a photo album. If I save the complete web page, I can go into the folder that is generated and 'cut-and-paste' the picture from there.

Great tour. It was interesting seeing the above ground support instruments and the control room where the team was actually controlling the beam in support of the scientific experiments. It is pretty amazing to think that each day (the beam runs almost 24/7) that someone is saying something like "please increase the positron beam intensity 10%." And they DO!

Reopened RSVPs in case last minute cancellations opens up RSVPs on SLAC's website. I know at least two people have called in to cancel (including, unfortunately - myself). So I was hoping someone else might have been able to take those tickets. It doesn't look like the SLAC Tours website automatically updates after you've cancelled though. I won't be making it in due to a stomach flu. I hope everyone going has a great time and I'll repost this event soon!

I'm closing RSVPs to this meetup since the SLAC tours for this date are closed. We will definitely post this event again in the future since it seems to be so popular. If you didn't get to sign up at SLAC's and do not have a ticket, you will have to wait 'till the next tour date.

I'm very pleasantly surprised with how popular this event is becoming. I hope that everyone has signed up for the tour via SLAC's website though. The tickets are free, but they won't let you in for the tour if you don't have a ticket for that time. When I checked, it looks as if the tours are entirely full for that day.
