Jonathan, Friday was so enjoyable for myself and Darryl. We always meet such wonderful people. Your lovely Grandmother mentioned that you are giving a recital. Please tell us where and when so we can come and cheer you on.

It was really great to play and hear others play last night. Thanks Jon for organizing yet another terrific event!

Thanks Dan! Tried hard as possible and it's always nice to see you and hear you play!

Jonathan - I love the whole concept of your group. But was mentioning there is another. We are much more limited than yours. I so wanted to come but was sick. I will definitely be coming to the next. I am glad there are 2 groups like ours that love piano. I hope you will come to one of our CAPG meetups. Would love to hear you play. :-))))

Hopefully I end up playing ok! I would love to join and meet everyone, I happened to meet the organizer when I went with Saurab to watch Lugansky perform.

Jonathan, thank you for organizing! It was great to perform at the meetup. Cara, thank you for performing with me! I look forward to the next event.

Thanks Mark and it was great to hear you perform! Definitely come to the next!

Pierre - You might want to look into the CAPG group that plays at PianoForte every 3 mos. They are booked solid thru Oct but lots of fun - Only 15 can play - break after 1 hour with wine cheese and talk. Totally Classical music. http://www.meetup.com/Chicago-Amateur-Pianist-Guild/?scroll=true

If I had not been sick, I would have come to this group - it sounds like it was lots of fun.

Sally, we do have refreshments and plenty of time for discussion. We just didn't have a meeting for a while. I usually buy refreshments and this time unlike any other time, we didn't request donations. I'm a classical music but appreciate the versatility and diversity that this group presents, from chamber music to jazz... also beginners and advanced musicians are also welcomed. We also want college-bound students being welcomed as well so I guess the best way to put it is that we want to keep this group "Fresh".

    • Jonathan Paul C.

LOL whoops I meant to say I'm a classical musician, not music, my phone auto corrected me! It will be nice to meet you soon Sally!

Greatest meetup. Even though i came not prepared. Next time i know what to play. I enjoyed listening to everyone at the recitals. Excellent performance for everyone.

This was a very great time! Next time we will definitely indicate what selections we are thinking about playing and also have a time limit for the players to accommodate more people! Thanks to all who were able to make it!

A lovely way to spend a Friday evening....

Unfortunately, due to a health emergency in the family, we are not going to be able to attend tonight. I just changed my RSVP from yes to no. Hopefully we'll be able to attend another meeting soon.

My family is in town this weekend. I'm hoping to meet up with them after this event, so I will have to leave the piano meetup around 8pm. May Cara and I perform earlier in the "program"?

    May 16, 2014

  • Jane

Thanks for asking! Doing better...got the sling off. You're all going to enjoy Mark's singing!

    May 15, 2014

  • Karl F.

Richard, ack, sorry to hear it :-(. Hope you recover quickly.

Mark: due to some family stuff, I've had less time to work on the Vaughan Williams than I wanted, but could still do "Whither Must I Wander" at least. What key do you sing it in? Cara might know some more of them... Cara, how's that left shoulder?

(Yifang: ready on the Schubert :-). )

    Looking forward to tomorrow!

      Hi karl,

      May 15, 2014

    • Mark

Cara and I just rehearsed the songs for tomorrow, so don't worry about prepping those pieces. Thanks for looking at the music. See you tomorrow.

  • Richard K.

I sustained an injury to my Right hand so will have to forego this time. :-(

    May 15, 2014

  • Dave B.

Waitlisted! Curse my procrastination. I'll get to one of these meetups someday...

  • Timothy P.

Jonathan, thanks for taking the initiative to re-start the group. I would love to participate but this weekend is already tied up. Please keep me on the list for next time. I'd be happy to bring a bottle of wine.

  • Karl F.

Yifang, yes, I'd love to do the march. I'll start practicing, I guess both upper and lower parts so we can decide then :-).

Mark: likewise yes, at least tentatively -- which songs from the set, and in what keys? (But it sounds like Yifang might accompany you, which is fine too.)

    May 9, 2014

    • Yifang L.

That's great. I think I can do both parts too. But I prefer the upper one :). And I am so glad to play this song with you at that night.

      1 · May 9, 2014

    • Karl F.

Sounds good! I'll devote a little more time to the bass part then.

Sorry for not updating this group in a very long time! If you are interested in playing in this Meetup, please email me at [masked] and tell me what you are thinking about playing and the duration! We are lucky enough to play at Pianoforte Studios and have Mr. Thomas Zoells to thank for this. We will have these meetups more often, hopefully monthly, so don't feel as if there is pressure to perform at this one if you aren't ready. However, if you don't know if you are ready and want to give it a shot, this is the right group to perform in front of. Given the amount of people attending, I think everyone who wants to play will be given a shot.

I am sorry, but I have things going on Friday...
I am really sad that I have to miss the chance to listen all of you playing... Hopefully next time!:)

Just remembered...I'm going out of town on that exact evening :-/

    Hi Mark,
I've responded to your e-mail about getting together to practice Did you get it?
I hurt my left shoulder about a month ago. It's healing well and will hopefully be good by Friday; but just in case it's still bugging me (the low octaves, in particular), it's good to know that a couple of people (Karl and Yifang) are available to pitch in if needed. I will bring the score, for sure, either way. Cara

Hi everyone, I'd like to sing some selections from Songs of Travel by Vaughan Williams at the meetup. Does anyone want to accompany me on piano?

    1 · April 10, 2014

    • Yifang L.

Do you have the piano sheet?

      May 8, 2014

  • Jonathan Paul C.

I apologize everyone, I listed the piano Meetup on the 18th when it is on May 16th from 7-9pm. Given the amount of people that are planning to attend as well, we will have to figure out who intends on playing for everyone because we will end promptly at 9pm.

When is a the deadline on letting you know of the songs to be played for this event? Im planning to play either 1 or 2 simple songs.

Fridays are not good for me. Too bad, I was so pleasantly surprised when you scheduled it for Sunday.

    April 15, 2014

I am not sure if I can attend on 16th Friday, But since I am planing to not play, just want to join to listen, can I just keep my status as "YES"? I will let you now as soon as possible! Thank you:)

Hi Mark. I'd be happy to accompany you if you let me know which songs you'll be doing. I'll need to practice so I can make you sound good! Cara

Awesome! I am hoping to do the whole cycle at some point in the near future, but, for the meetup, I think I'll do "The Vagabond", "Let Beauty Awake", and "Whither Must I Wander". I can provide you with copies of the music, if you'd like.
