Dive Bar & Grille (Wexford)

Time for another meetup! This time, we're headed back to the ironically named Dive Bar up in Wexford (hint: it's not). With a decent set of draft options and a somewhat more extensive set of bottled options, the group has had some good beer at Dive Bar in the past. I find that they focus much of their energy on two major beer categories: IPA's and Belgians. That's not to say they don't have anything else, but you can be almost certain that any hop heads and Wallonio-philes will be especially well-served.

Beyond the beer, Dive Bar is also a great source for some higher end bar-style munchies: sandwiches, sliders, and a wide array of fried appetizers. They even throw in some decent salads for good measure — and the Grille does a good job with them all.

Whether you're there for the food, the friends, or the beer, it's sure to be a good time!

It was a lively night and I think a lot of folks from the North Hills appreciated the location. It is a really comfortable space. I agree that the credit card issue was annoying but a minor detail--at least I know better for next time to not let it happen again! My only regret was arriving at 7:00 just as the happy hour specials ended. Thanks to the organizers for another fun gathering.

The great conversation made up for the limited selections on draft. Nice to talk with so many beer enthusiasts ! I truly enjoy our group. Sarah the server was terrific.

I do agree that their beer selection has often been better, but I wouldn't go so far as to say "skip this one". Dive Bar has a lot to offer. And like Suzanne said, keeping your card is not all that unusual when you run a tab. I DO, however, think it was weird that Sarah wouldn't let somebody pay with cash throughout the night. She absolutely would not bring him a beer without him giving her a card or ID to hold (neither of which he had, since he mistakenly left his wallet at home). But overall, though, I thought she did a great job at taking care of 30 people all by herself!

I have been to Dive before and plan to go again, I just wouldn't hold an event there. I have never given up my credit card (to scan yes, but not for them to hold). It is not a good way to protect your credit and not highly recommended at all.

Sarah told me about running the tab and the credit card (I didn't know she KEPT them, though). I paid cash and gave her a tip on the spot. I knew it was a one beer night.

While the draft selection is limited, the bottle selection is fantastic. I found the wait staff to be extremely accommodating constantly checking our refills. As for "keeping" our credit cards for tabs, this is common procedure at all bars we have attended.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
