CAKEitecture! Cake Competition at the Carnegie Museum of Art

Taken from the Carnegie Museum of Art's web site. Note that the Heinz Architectural Center is inside the museum, it's not the Heinz Museum near the Strip District. Click here for the Facebook page for this event.

The Heinz Architectural Center is turning 20, and we’re kicking off a year of special events with a birthday party—you can be a part of the fun! We’re pairing local architectural firms with local bakeries to create architecture-inspired cakes to mark our big day. Come vote on (and taste!) some of their creations. The cakes—and their bakers and designers—will be our special guests at a party in the Heinz Architectural Center.

Flour, sugar, travertine, solar panels...it'll be monumental!

It's FREE!

Teams include:

  • The Design Alliance and Gluuteny
  • Loysen + Kreuthmeier Architects and Prantl’s
  • Springboard Design and Sugar ‘N Spires
  • Perkins Eastman and Madison Ave Cakes
  • Young Architects Forum (YAF) and Dozen Bake Shop

Quite a success and they "Let them [us] Eat Cake!". This first of its kind event had such unique cakes that tasted so good...and a huge but very nice appreciative crowd...Planners said that they expected 300 attendees but got between 800-1,000...but the crowd was well managed and it was fun... there was more than enough cake, ice cream, whipped cream, drinks, etc....See photos...

Fallingwater and Mr Rogers/Downtown Pgh cakes were fabulous. Karen, next time you go to Oakland on the weekend, it is free to park in the lot across from CMU, right across the bridge on the left hand side. Only 1 block away. The gates are lifted on the weekend and when you exit those gates will automatically go up for you. Shhhh. It will be our little secret!

It was amazing! I loved it! I got to talk to the bakers and architects and they were so gracious in telling me about their creations. Price was small for parking and the cash bar was reasonable
