Art All Night is a 24-hour long art happening that occurs every year in the month of April within the neighborhood of Lawrenceville
What is Art All Night?
Art All Night is an uncensored, non-juried art show occurring the last weekend in April in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh. It starts on the Saturday night and goes all night until Sunday afternoon.
When is it held?
The last weekend of April.
Where is it held?
In an effort to showcase the diversity of Lawrenceville the location changes each year. As the event has grown we seek spaces of 20,000 sq. feet or more. In January the building committee identifies potential sites and works with the property owners to determine the actual location.
If you have a building and would be interested in hosting the show, please email info at artallnight.org
What does it cost?
Nothing, participation and attendance are both free.
How many pieces can I submit?
One. Artwork comprised of several physical pieces is considered one piece of art.
I have something unusual...
Great! We love unusual. If it needs special handling or extra time to setup, please email info at artallnight.org before the event so we can be prepared to help you.
What happens before the event?
A group of dedicated volunteers start meeting weekly on Wednesdays in late January to plan the event. Then, once the location is identified, there are several weekend cleanup and preparation events in April.
If you are interested in an expanded volunteer role please email info at artallnight.org.
What happens the day of the event?
It has been described as a real rush on Saturday. Hundreds of volunteers arrive to help with registration and hang the art. Then, check the website for times, artists start bringing artwork to registration. Volunteer registrars take in the artwork, others make sure the work can be hung, and then more volunteers hang the art.
In less than 4 hours more than 1200 pieces of art are dropped-off and hung.
When the doors open...
The music begins, the children activities start, and the parking lots start to fill. In 2008 we had an estimated 10,000 people attend, most of whom visited on Saturday night.
When is the best time to go?
That depends on the atmosphere you are looking for. Saturday night has lots of children's activities, bands and the largest crowds. Sunday morning is very peaceful with much smaller crowds. The middle of the night has a whole other vibe to it.
What about children?
The show is open to everyone. We have children activities on Saturday night adjacent to a youth-friendly section of art. The rest of the show is uncensored.
How do I participate as an artist?
It's easy. Check this website in April where you can register on-line. Then bring your artwork to the location on Saturday (the hours are posted on the website) with your registration form and a photo ID. On-site registration is available.
Art All Night All Year:
Starting in 2008 artists were able to put images of their artwork on our website for the rest of the year. If you would like to participate in Art All Night All Year please take a digital picture of your artwork that you can upload when registering on line. You will also receive an email after the show telling you how to upload your photo if you did not at registration.
If you have special needs just let us know before the event so we can plan for your piece.
How do I volunteer to help?
Visit the website in late March and follow the Volunteer link. There you will see the list of activities we need help with and you can sign up for a time slot. Then just check in with the Volunteer coordinator on site at the time you signed up for.
If you are interested in helping, we have meetings on Wednesdays before the event please email info at artallnight.org.
