August OpenHack

- You can hack on anything! Any language, framework, public/open-source, personal, etc.
- You don’t have to have an idea to hack on! You’re more than welcome to come just to pair with someone.
- Start off with a quick round of introductions (every night!), to say who you are, what you’re working on, and if you’d like help with your idea.
- Don’t go too late. 9-10pm is good. Focus usually wanes by this point, for obvious reasons! Maybe if there’s interest head to a bar for more discussion.

Make sure you tag @OpenHackPGH or @pghrb when you post these. I'll definitely retweet them

Any advice on driving through rush hour from Oakland? I know it's gonna take a while, so it's a question of the lesser evil: Liberty Bridge, then local traffic, vs. Fort Pitt and roundabout. Fort Pitt is always terrible, so Liberty better?

Thanks to all for the suggestions! This will be something of an adventure for me on Monday as I come up with a Plan A and maybe B and C.

CMU to ModCloth worked out using the Steuben route, took no more than half an hour (much of which was just going through Oakland to get onto the parkway).

Enjoyed working on learning Elixir with others and helping out with Haskell.

    OpenHack was great, as always.

Sigh ... I'm apparently stuck at work (again) and won't be able to attend... Happy hacking, everyone!

Anyone from the East End interested in carpooling? If there's anyone with experience/interest I might try to hack together a Rework plugin to post-process rem unit fallbacks for CSS, start to finish during the meetup. Should be pretty simple. Otherwise I'll be working on some of my Jekyll and Yeoman projects.

I, too, will be coming from Squirrel Hill...

Eh, it turns out I'll be downtown, without a car. If anyone is passing through and would be willing to let me jump in the passenger seat let me know.

Just so everyone knows, ModCloth will be providing pizza tonight :)

PROTIP: You can skip the tunnel shenanigans altogether if you use West Carson and Steuben St. http://goo.gl/maps/18hrk

West Carson closes at the West End Bridge. You can still get to Steuben.

      August 22, 2013

    • Rachel T.

To add a little more detail to Matt's comment -- Carson/51 is closed immediately NW of the West End Bridge, but the bridge itself and its zigzag onto Steuben are both open. So if you're coming from the North, coming across the West End Bridge onto Steuben is perfectly viable. Or if you're coming from downtown/east, Ft Pitt Bridge -> Carson -> Steuben is another viable route. In any case, Steuben, yes.

What will you be working on at the August OpenHack?

I'll be trying to get a basic hello world going in Elixir and then seeing how far I can take it.

I'll be closing out some issues and pull requests on http://github.com/joe... Any help is appreciated =)

Assuming I don't end up getting stuck at work (again...), I'm planning to be hacking on adding an online dues payment system to WPLUG's web site. If anyone has any experience integrating with Coinbase and/or Stripe, I'd love to talk to you. ;-)

I'd like to work on using Clojure's core.async library. My initial project is a simple proxy server. Next step is to enhance the proxy server to simulate flaky network behaviors.
