Vegan running training group 2, @ 3 p.m

This is the 3 p.m. Vegan running training group.

Both the 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. sessions are identical, so please only sign up for a single session. I split them up so that more people can attend. Tracey will be at both sessions.

Are there any other people in the group who would be interested in meeting and sharing running training tips? Not necessarily just about diet, but also general running tips. Training to run a marathon or half marathon is difficult enough, but being unable to eat the food everyone else gets on the course is an added challenge. Runners of all abilities are welcome -- every great journey begins with a single step.

    Hi Tracey!

I have a question, or maybe I should say a general interest in knowing more about lectins. A paleo friend sent me some info on why they do no consume legumes or grains and it's because of the presence of lectin and the potential harm they can do to the immune system, possible link to obesity, leaky gut, etc. I tried doing some research to see what our side has to say on the subject but I really couldn't find too much other than comments from Vegans on (mostly pro-paleo) blog posts saying that proper preparation techniques (soaking, sprouting, etc) greatly reduces the risk of damange.

I am curious if you have come across this in your research or if you can point me to any good resources where I can read up on it more. The internet seems to be failing me on this one so far!

    Thanks,
    Sarah

      Hi Sarah,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have never heard of lectins being an issue with a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based lifestyle. If it was that important or that critical of a link to obesity, leaky gut, or harm to the immune system, then I would think that the plant-based MDs that we all follow would have said something about it. I would just continue to focus on eating a wide variety of raw and cooked whole plant foods. If I do hear anything on lectins, I will be sure to let you know.

Tracey & Steve, thank you both for the information shared yesterday. As my training is about to ramp up, I'm excited to start putting these tips and advice to the test and share them with friends and family.

Thanks for putting this together Steve, and especially to Tracey for sharing so much of your expert knowledge (and for staying late for us!) :-) I learned a lot and was inspired to rethink the way that I've been fueling my body. Hope to see you all again soon! :-)
