Vegan/Vegetarian outreach and promotion.

I'm setting up a Mercy for Animals vendor booth at the 4th annual Panera Bread Pup walk. I need a few people to help me work the booth and distribute Mercy for Animals brochures and leaflets. This is an event for the Western PA Humane Society. Here is a link to check out the details:

I've set up a table at a previous humane society event and found that the people at these events tend to be more open minded to a plant based diet.

Justin thanks for bringing all of the things you did...esp the shade from the canopy you set up. :) I will order some literature from humane myth.org for the PNC pup walk.

Hopefully we got at least a few people to open their minds and consider how farm animals are treated.

We had a great time at the Pup Walk, talking with people about Mercy For Animals and the Pittsburgh Walk for Farm Animals! It was a great turnout at the Pup Walk, so we had a nice audience to reach out to.

Pierce, "open door" shelter means that they do not refuse any animals or turn them away. Euthanasia only takes place in extreme circumstances, such as an overly aggressive dog or an animal who can't mentally handle shelter life and is deteriorating mentally and physically. They do not euthanize for space. The ARL places animals where they can when they are crowded. Unfortunately, a no kill shelter only has so many spaces available for the animals. When they are overcrowded, they do turn people and pets away. Hope that answers your question :)

I just got my vendor instructions today. The vendor area is at the big grassy area in front of Starbucks. Photos and maps are located at http://www.waterfrontpgh.com/. If you know where the movie theater is located at the Waterfront you should not have a problem finding it. I will be there between 7:30-8:00 to start setting everything up. The pup walk officially runs from 9:00-12:00, but they expect people to arrive early. I was told they are expecting a large crowd. See you Sunday morning.

Have you considered showing how farm animals are treated with a portable DVD player? It made me quit eating meat immediately.

Just wondering, does "open door" mean a kill shelter? http://www.wpahumane.org/opendoor.html

I know people don't think the ARL is a no-kill shelter either, but it seems like a step closer to being one than the WPHS

Yes abosolutely, the walk for farm animals is a great event. If you have anything else that you can give people that will make them consider moving towards a plant based diet feel free to bring it.

I think ill be able to attend. I should know in the next few days. Is there any chance we could also hand out flyers and/or have sign-ups for the Pittsburgh Walk for Farm Animals?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
