Raising Vegan Children (Parent Discussion)

I have been raising my son (who is currently 2.75) as a vegan since he was born. I am interested in meeting with other parents who are doing the same--or considering it. I'm imagining an information and idea sharing session among parents. We could (optionally) read a few chapters of Joanne Stepaniak's Raising Vegetarian Children (which is vegan), trade recipes and ideas for picky kids, ask each other questions, etc. I'm happy to share my experience so far. Perhaps, if there is sufficient interest, we could meet again to support each other and/or someday do a vegan kids meetup. I'm suggesting Eat Unique in Oakland as a venue (they have salads, snacks, vegan cookies, coffee, etc.).

Although I am not a parent, I wanted to share a resource with the group if anyone is interested. This past spring, myself and two of my friends were interns with Engine 2 Diet and we created a workbook, entitled "Healthy Food, Happy Family", for families to encourage healthy (vegan) eating for kids. The workbook is divided into three sections with science-based articles for parents about nutrition, fun activities for kids to get excited about eating more fruits and vegetables, and lots of kid-friendly recipes. I just figured it might be something helpful for the group. Here's the link to the pdf of the book:

Thank you for sharing this resource with all of us. I just quickly scrolled through the PDF, and I'm excited about the fun pages your group created, as well as the recipes you shared. This was absolutely a wonderful gift you gave us. Thank you.

I copied a chapter from the Stepaniak book and will email it to you all in case you want to read it (it's totally optional for attending). It's the chapter on negotiating a vegan environment for children in the home. I also copied one on nutrition, but the copy turned out all wonky. I'll bring the book if anyone wants to see that part, but I assume for many in this group it would be "preaching to the choir."

Actually, can't figure out how to email something to attendees. Please send me an email (via my profile) if you want the reading.

Yes, yes, yes! Great idea for a meetup. I keep wanting desperately to get some vegan kid friends for my kids! Meeting the other vegan parents in the area is the perfect start! Finally! Yay!

I'm not 100% sure I can be there, but I hope so.

I'm interested. My kids are vegetarian and I'd like to discuss with others how they are doing things vegan (and get ideas!).
