Vegan Pittsburgh has been working hard over the past months!

Now, to celebrate the induction of our 35th restaurant and to help spread the word about our mission, we'd like to see all of you… in person!

If you're interested in hearing more about Vegan Pittsburgh's mission and objectives, we’d love for you to join us for some conversation, Q&A, and of course, great food. Bring a dish or beverage to share, as well as your own place setting (plate, cup, utensils), to keep the event sustainable.

We can’t wait to meet and talk with you more about Vegan Pittsburgh! Come celebrate with us!

This was so much fun, thank you to everyone who organized, contributed, and attended! I loved hanging out with new and familiar vegan folk, and all of the food was super tasty. I hope we can do something like this again really soon...

Also, some of us were asking about sharing recipes, so I'm going to try to post mine for the Spicy Ethiopian Lentils. I hope some of you will please consider posting your dish from the potluck too, everything was so great!

Chloe, do you use that spice mixture for other things? (I'd like to make it but was wondering what else I might use it for :) )

I haven't tried it yet on other things, but I think it would be delicious sprinkled over veggies or as an extra kick in a curry. One Ethiopian restaurant I've visited put it on popcorn as a snack! The recipe makes a good amount of the berbere spice, about 5 or 6 tablespoons, and the lentil recipe calls for one tablespoon. I know the list of spices looks long, but there's nothing super obscure in there, and the rest of the recipe is so easy - I think it's worth it!

Hey, great to see everyone! Remember to like us on Facebook and recommend our website to anyone looking for vegan food.

The banana bread was simply this recipe, except I only used turbinado sugar, and half the flour was whole wheat:

Stay in touch, and hope to run into you soon!

    Decadent Brownies
    Serves 9
1 cup instant oats in a blender/food processor
    1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
    1/2 tsp baking powder
    1 cup light brown sugar
    1/3 cup vegan chocolate chips
    1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/3 cup canned black beans (drained and rinsed)
1/2 cup any type of berries (if frozen, thawed)
    1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350, and grease a 9-inch square pan or line with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, brown sugar, coffee, and salt, if desired, until well combined, and set aside. Heat chocolate chips in microwave for 20-40 seconds, just until they are soft, not totally melted. combine chocolate with applesauce, beans, berries, and vanilla in a blender and puree until smooth. add wet mixture to flour mixture and stir to combine. it will look too dry first - it's not; keep stroking until you have a thick and shiny batter. pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 20-30 minutes.

    Vegan Potato Pancakes
I made these but omitted the parsley and added garlic and 1 stalk leeks, and used wheat flour

What restaurant is the 35th, and is Schwartz Living Market with Jonathan's Gluten Free Vegan Food and The Enchanted Garden Juice Bar and Soup For Your Soul included in those 35? We are located at 1317 East Carson Street in Pittsburgh's Historic South Side and would love to host an event sometime soon! Blessings to all of you! :)

Elisa, thanks so much for your suggestions and generous offer! Jonathan's is most definitely included, and we share his updates frequently on our Facebook page! Our full list of eateries (plus info about what qualifies places for inclusion) can be found at ... and you can find us (and Jonathan!) on FB at https://www.facebook.c... . We're actually up to 37 places now (with a 38th on the way!), but our official 35th was Habitat, downtown in the Fairmont Hotel.
