I took this c.1968 with a 35mm camera. Last year I had a ton of 35mm slides transferred to digital.

Great image here Carol... I like the tone and time of day. There is a lot in the image. (but nothing distracting) I think I see 7 people in it too. : )

I love how authentic and honest this picture is. This photograph is just awesome! It would be perfect for the cover of an Ernest Hemingway novel. Or as a reference for a watercolor painting, I think, if he was alive, Winslow Homer would be all over this, asking you if he could use it for a painting. In my opinion the best pictures are ones you would want to use as a reference for painting.

Thanks all. As I look at this photo again, I'm thinking this guy never needed to join a gym, did he?

Thanks Rene. It was just one of those shots I couldn't plan or even take the time to decide what should or shouldn't be in it. I saw the guy with the basket of pineapples on his head. He was on the move, so I just snapped. That was with Kodachrome slide film which was fairly expensive in Brazil at that time (on my $60/month Brazilian salary) so I didn't take a 2nd shot.

I really like this photo. The softer colors, with a dominant gray throughout the print really tie all the elements together. The processing retained the original values without overemphasizing the elements giving it a certain flavor of lithography or perhaps a watercolor wash. I would love to see the original side-by-side.

Carol, did you realiza you captured a case of Guarana Fratteli Vita apple soda? They are now gone but I can still smell and taste the stuff, even from a warm bottle under the Sun. Really makes the photo for me.
