Pixel Sprint: Hot Chocolate Campaign for Meals on Wheels

Earlier this month, Meals on Wheels asked us how quickly and cheaply we could build a website for their February Hot Chocolate campaign. We told them "for free and soon enough" but we thought we'd have some fun with this and share the experience with the community.

This Saturday we will be camping out in the Melrose basement from 11am until 5pm. The goal: build and launch a voting system, email campaign and mobile optimized Wordpress website in less than 6 hours.

Questions and discussion will be encouraged and there will be opportunities to show off some skillz! RSVP now and learn how to build a website with the grace of a drunken gazelle.

What We Need

  1. Artsy farts who would like to try painting a favicon! We'll have sixteen 4"x4" square canvases that will each be divided into 16 "pixels". Together they will form a 16x16px favicon and will serve as the logo for the campaign.
  2. More artsy farts to design and carve one passport stamp for every drink in the campaign (about 20 so far). These will be given to each venue to stamp customers' Hot Chocolate Passports.
  3. Nerds who would like to install a gallery plugin for Wordpress. Each stamp will serve as the logo for each drink and will be stored in the gallery.
  4. More nerds to build/install a widget that will calculate the nearest venue based on postal code. People will need to find these places before they can drink!

We also need people of all shapes and sizes to fill in the gaps. We have 6 hours to design and build everything and launch a fully functional WP website by 5pm.

Also, feel free to bring your own WP project to the space. We will be available for questions throughout the day and hopefully some idle hands will even be able to help you with your project.

Always interesting and exciting to meet and share amongst the group. Would have loved to have all things completed by the end, but one goal of this was the learning along the way... and I think everyone got some of that!
