July Tag!

The FUN! begins at 2:00 p.m. rain or shine. Shoes or no shoes. Wear your play clothes; mud stains are inevitable and are worn as a badge of honour. Expect to tease and be teased, run, jump and possibly slide! Laughter, sweat, grass stains and breathlessness are common side effects – though a well deserved euphoria kicks in eventually too. Hope to see you there!

1:45 Mix and mingle and set up the field
2:00 Let the games begin!
4:00 Wrap it up.

What you need:
Clothes you can get dirty in!
Shoes you can run in.
Layers (you will get hot, then cold)
Snacks (good enough for trading)
Water (juice if you're a fancy-pants) <--- We won't be able to bring any along.
A Twoonie to donate towards building the FUN.

Be aware that playing tag requires a whole lotta fast moves in every direction! The fun you're having can distract you from realizing the demand on your body. Be mindful of your limits; we do not have a first aid attendant at the park. Please come prepared with anything you may need to mend yourself.

Meet at CLARK PARK <--- click for map.

Clark Park is kinda laid out in tiers. The high end borders Commercial and 14th. The low end borders Maddams and 14th. We’ll meet at the lower end at 1:45pm.

If you’re walking up from the Broadway Station sky-train, there’s an entrance to the park on the corner of Commercial and 14th – just head downhill to find us. The park’s relatively small so if you get lost we reserve the right to tease you ;)

Oh, and, there’s no potty in the park. It may be good to show up on empty. Just saying…

This group is intended for adults (19+). We have no age cap; elders are welcome. If you would like to bring someone under 19 to the games, please email Chris or Michelle.

    Always so much fun!!!

Lots of fun... over heated, semi dehydrated, but wanted to keep going. Two hours is just not enough :)
Enjoyed the zombie tag (with the water guns). I think a small 10 second cool-down period on all "actions", like zombie tagging a human or hunter shooting a zombie, would make the game more manageable and less of a slaughter for the poor unarmed humans :P.

    • Jules

We'll refine the balance with future sessions. I feel that 10 seconds is too long and the zombies will get wiped out too quickly... but we can try it with, and perhaps also with 5 seconds if 10 is too long. I guess a cooldown makes sense flavour-wise in that zombies are at least temporarily sated after a meal.

It was great to get out again. Especially nice to get shot in the back, and front, and anywhere ... with water. Have to make it the norm for hot weather, whether or not part of a game.

Again more awesomeness! The nice thing about tag is that there don't seem to be any set rules... sort of... A lot of hugging going on during tunnel tag. Just means you're all a really friendly bunch of people! Yay you!!!

This may sound like a silly question but it must be asked. If we are to bring water and ballons for a water fight, how do we get the water into the balloons? Don't you need pressure for that?

    July 11, 2013

    • Jules

My suggestion was for water guns. Water balloons are also an option, but yeah, they'd have to be pre-filled at home first. That's a lot of work if only one person is bringing them... not to mention transporting them.

I do have an idea for watergun tag though - bring a bottle of non-toxic, non-staining water soluble tempera paint (like kids use) and a brush. Paint team logo on arm (variant: everybody for themselves), last team with non-running (dry) paint on arm wins.

I think one small bottle of blue and red should do it - loonie store probably has them, or maybe Michaels, Superstore, etc.

Attending tag players - do all of you have some kind of squirtgun? I have a few I could lend out, but not enough for the whole group.

Organizers - what do you think? It gets pretty hot running around on a summer day.

Zombie tag! (or simply call it 'Infection') I don't mean the one we tried last time, but something simpler that we tried once before in the fall. No running at all: the humans are loaded with survival supplies, and the zombies are classic shambling zombies. Start out with one infected, and of course anyone who is chomped will become a zombie after 15 seconds (silent countdown to self). You are allowed to lie and tell others, "I'm fine!" when you're asked if you've been 'bitten'. That way it's easy to not know who will suddenly become a zombie if you aren't paying attention.

Zombies should moan, and have arms straight out before them for grabbing (appropriately).

The speed walking makes it a good warmup or cooldown game for the start or end.

    July 10, 2013

    • Brenda H.

I'll agree to this if we also do skipping tag!

      July 11, 2013

    • Jules

It's the organizers that ultimately make the call - but I'm down for a game of skipping tag. Good exercise in not taking oneself too seriously.

Darn! I won't be in town Sunday. I was really looking forward to the zombie thing :( Wish you guys tons of fun!

Will bring amo and an après play thirst

Who's up for St.Augustines Pub afterwards for a beer or 4? Some much needed relief after a game of tag....!

    July 10, 2013

  • Sacha

    Yes to the pub!
And water balloons are always fun, and hold a restricted amount of water. Say each person brings an extra bottle or two of tap water for amo.

    July 10, 2013

  • Jules

Anyone have any ideas for games that could be played involving water guns? I think it would be nice to have some water in the mix on a hot day. Only thing is that I don't think there's a water source near the playfield, so 'ammo' would be limited to whatever was ported in.

Another fun day, meeting friendly people and having fun. Count me in!
