New Year 2014 Tag!

The FUN! begins at 2:00 p.m. rain or  shine. Shoes or no shoes. Wear your play clothes; mud stains are inevitable and are worn as a badge of honour. Expect to tease and be teased, run, jump and possibly slide! Laughter, sweat, grass stains and breathlessness are common side effects – though a well deserved euphoria kicks in eventually too. Hope to see you there!

1:45 Mix and mingle and set up the field
2:00 Let the games begin!
4:00 Wrap it up.

What you need:
Clothes you can get dirty in!
Shoes you can run in.
Layers (you will get hot, then cold)
Snacks (good enough for trading)
Water (juice if you're a fancy-pants) <--- We won't be able to bring any water along.
A Twoonie to donate towards building the FUN.

Be aware that playing tag requires a whole lotta fast moves in every direction! The fun you're having can distract you from realizing the demand on your body. Be mindful of your limits; we do not have a first aid attendant at the park. Please come prepared with anything you may need to mend yourself.

Meet at CLARK PARK <--- click for map.

Clark Park is kinda laid out in tiers. The high end borders Commercial and 14th. The low end borders Maddams and 14th. We’ll meet at the lower end at 1:45pm.

Here's a picture, courtesy of Google:

If you’re walking up from the Broadway Station sky-train, there’s an entrance to the park on the corner of Commercial and 14th – just head downhill to find us. The park’s relatively small so if you get lost we reserve the right to tease you ;)

Final Notes:

There's no potty in the park. It may be good to show up on empty. Just saying…

This group is intended for adults (19+). We have no age cap; elders are welcome. If you would like to bring someone under 19 to the games, please email Chris or Michelle.

It's been a very long time since I played in the mud and the rain. There was even mud on my toes under my socks and absolutely filthy sneakers. Tons of fun! Thanks for a great time, lovely folks!

I really wish i had gotten a picture of what my shower looked like... I did my best to keep Lisa's car clean, then gently inched my way into my apartment and jumped into the shower, clothes, shoes and all. It was a mud pit, but man that hot water was just what i needed. The more the merrier with this group, and I was so stoked to see how many people came even with the chilly rain. Thanks everyone!!!

The shower at the end of a rainy tag game is like heaven!! And I hosed down in the car parkade before going upstairs, LOL.

Fun as always! That's what this group is all about! Playing in the mud. Being ONE with the earth! (That would be you Jamie...)
But the best part is the hot shower afterwards, watching most of the park wash down the drain.
What I don't understand is how chunks of mud THAT big end up in my shoes? I know they have holes, but really???

I hear you! I hosed myself down in the underground and I have no idea how my feet fit inside all that mud in my shoes!!

Bother, let me try that again. I am NOT a regular 9 to 5, weekends off gal. Does tag ever happen on weekdays or evenings during the week?

I'll be in the same situation as you when I graduate, Linda. (Yay shift work!) I'd be into this idea!

So far, it's always been Sunday afternoons. We generally get about the right turnout then. We have been asked about Saturdays, and there is a poll open (http://www.meetup.com...) to gauge interest. I suspect that we would not get enough people during the week, except possibly for summer evenings. Generally, speaking, if there seems to be enough interest, we'll give it a go (like the beach tag that took place last year)

The day after I arrive from Scotland, don't think jetlag-tag would be a great idea. I'll be down for the next one, for sure!

New to meetups. Is it ok to bring my son (10) to play tag? He loves it and has a great attitude.

Chris sent this out this summer to another new member, so the references to daughters is his: You can, but with a few conditions. There are certain games that we may play that we would not let him play at all. For the others, we would warn people that a smaller person was going to be playing, but we'd also tell them not to go easy on him! (having said that, we always have a huge variety of speeds, manoeuvrabilities, etc, and it always seems to work itself out fairly well). Essentially, he'd have to be able to play with the adults, we wouldn't expect the adults to play as they might with kids, if you know what I mean. My two daughters have been along in the past. The now-10-year-old tends to just watch (and likes to take photos), while the 14-year-old had no problem joining in with a lot of the games.

Thanks for clearing that up Michelle. I think I will just go to the first tag myself to see how it flows.
