6.15 Presentations: Two International Visitors Called "Alex"
Alex St. John is the man who got Microsoft into gaming in the 90s, helped invent Direct X and famously got Bill Gates to appear inside 'Doom' to promote Windows 95 as the ultimate gaming platform. He is also the founder of WildTangent.com and former CEO of Hi5.com.
Alex will talk about his 'colourful career' and more recent work in building social games companies.
UK-based AlexAmsel, CEO of indie studio Tuna, will talk about the continuing saga of Eufloria, nominated for the 2008 IGF Grand Prize. Alex's team took a two-year old hit indie game and continued its development and lifespan, doubling sales in the process. Many of you may remember Alex from last year's NZGDA Conference.
6.50 Holly Melancholy: The Game
Well-known Kiwi street artist Tanja Jade ‘Misery’ has teamed up with some Meetup regulars to ‘crowd-fund’ to bring Misery’s twisted creations to life in a video game.
7.00 Noticeboard/Open Mic: Announcements about people looking for collaborators, advice or resources.
7.10 Pizza, networking, group discussions then eventually the Bluestone Room pub.
