Venue problems for October session

Dear playreaders,

We've watched the ongoing construction in ACT's big room at 1119 Market where we've been having our readings. Very soon the room will become a performance venue for ACT and it's just been announced  that it will function as one of the venues as part of "24 Days of Central Market Arts", an arts festival through October 16 and beyond.

In particular a local choreographer, Erika Chong Such, will present a movement piece on October 13-15 in the  big room . No doubt Ms Chong's piece will take over the room for rehearsal, production and performances beginning immediately. That dims our chances of even using the kitchen, since VIPs will be visiting at odd hours. . The Chong piece is scheduled to finish its run on October 15th, but the promotional materials don't reveal when the rest of the festival will actually subside. It's likely that the big room and the other parts of the building will be brought into play for storage, etc.  We might  ask about doing our session on the 18th, which would be a week beyond our usual "second Monday", but the arts festival might still be winding down.

So it looks like we will have to either "get lucky" with the arts festival's activity,  move the location of our October playreading or postpone it.

In the past we've used Martin Macks on Haight Street and Connecticut Yankee in the flatlands north of Potrero. Both are problematical (but have nice kitchens)  Connecticut's food was great, but they wanted us to leave soon after 9 PM since we were the only ones there. I'll check with Martin Macks this week.

If you have any venue ideas please check with the proprietors and get back to me right away,

We might meet at my and Callie's house, which is accessible on the #5 Fulton bus line at Central (also the #21 and #31)  but auto parking is pretty bad where we live.

Our long term goal would be to secure a modest place on ACT's  schedule at 1119 Market, but with the Conservatory  in the wings we'll be small potatoes.

If you have an idea for a suitable venue, check it out and let me know at[masked]

 Yours,

 John Chapot
