Assistant Organizer, Robert, has found the place he that might rival the now legendary Bludso's. Some Pleasure Palate members already had a bit of a preview after checking out one of their Farmers Market locations, but after talking to the owner, Robert has set up a fabulous BBQ lunch just for the group in their Saturday location at Watts.

Quoting Robert: "Ever since I found out about Bludso’s, I’ve been challenged with the task of finding another BBQ place that can rival them.

I have heard good things about Bigmistas in ChowHound, but have not had the chance to try them out yet because they don’t have a fixed location. They only do a rotation on several Farmer’s Markets around LA. I love Farmer’s Markets, but they usually don’t have good places to sit down and eat a hearty meal like BBQ.

So my 'Cue loving Pleasure Palate members, I have arranged for Bigmistas to cater us an event at the Watts Farmer’s Market on a Saturday in June. The arrangement will be very similar to the past BBQ parties I have hosted at Bludso’s and Nate’s.

We will have a tent, tables and chairs. You will get to sample what Bigmista’s has to offer in terms of meats, side dishes and desserts."

For $16/$17, you will get a sampling of the following:

Meats

Pork Ribs – slow cooked and then glazed in their special sauce.
Pulled Pork – pulled apart and shredded by hand
Beef Brisket – slow-cooked for 12 hours
Tri-tip – Peppery and juicy
Chicken – seasoned with their special rub and smoked
The Fatty – Breakfast sausage seasoned and slow smoked

Side Orders

Smoked BBQ Beans
Greens
Pineapple Coleslaw
Potato Salad

Desserts

Peach Cobbler
Sweet Potato Pie
Red Velvet Cupcakes

Drinks

Soda
Water

Here’s some pics from their website to whet your appetite: http://www.bigmista.c...

I highly recommend that you do not eat breakfast the day of the event. And wear dark, loose fitting clothes because BBQ can get messy and your waistline will expand when you are done stuffing your belly with BBQ, side dishes and dessert!!!

The amount you paid does not cover tips. Tips are optional and I will leave it up to you how much you want to give based on your experience of the BBQ party.

That brisket was to die for and I loved their spicy bbq sauce. As for sides, the bbq beans were killer and their sweet potato pie and red velvet cupcakes were awesome! :) Thanks Robert!

Very good smoky flavors that to me rivaled Bludso's... the brisket was especially good and the skinless, boneless chicken quite tender too. I liked their greens, just the right amount of tang with a bit of sweetness. They also had the best sweet potato pie I've ever had. The red velvet mini-cupcake was nice too. Great find and a really nice, family-owned operation.
