Summer time is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate it than by taking a cooking class focusing on food from the tropics. Teaching the class will be Amanda Cushman who's a chef, culinary educator and cookbook author who lives in Venice, CA. Her book, Simple, Real Food, advocates fresh food with farmer's market ingredients.

For $67/$70 the class will include the following:


  • Introduction by Chef Cushman

  • Part Demonstration and Hands-On Instructions

  • Highlighting the spices and produce that makes the food taste the way it does and going over ingredients (where to find it, how to store it etc.)

  • Highlighting the use of chilies, how to work with plantains, mangoes and jicama and how to flambe bananas

  • Complete 5 Course Meal: Crab Cakes with Chipotle Mayonnaise, Spicy Jerk Chicken, Miami Coconut Rice with Sweet Plantains, Jicama and Mango Salad with Lime Cilantro Dressing and Bahamas Bananas Foster

  • Take Home Recipe Cards

  • Chef Cushman will also have her cookbook available for purchase.


This will definitely be a fun class and when it's done, you'll have some great new recipes to try out for any upcoming summer parties.
