Pan Dulce is the traditional sweet bread of Mexico that everyone has seen in local latin supermarkets. But it's not the only sweet pastry in Mexican tradition. La Monarca is one of the premier bakeries in town. Ricardo Cervantes has created a bake shop in the style of the pastelerias of Mexico City. It’s not simply a bakery, but a dessert stop that features Mexican sweet delicacies with French influence of the past. You will find a sweet moist Tres Leches cake or Tiramisu or Napoleons call Mil Hojas. Ricardo will guide us on a tour of his bakery where we can meet their French chef who will demonstrate how some of the desserts are made. You will be able to sample a wide variety of their cakes, cookies and sweet breads, including their three kinds of frozen desserts . They feature water-based nieves (water based ices), and helados (ice creams).
The cost of the tour, including sweet samples is $10. Payment will be collected at the time of this event. But we ask that you please not sign up unless you feel sure you can attend.
Take a look at the review of their new store in E.L.A. from our member, Javier, who is kind enough to share his photo with us. Do not confuse their new store with the actual huge bakery in Huntington Park which is where we will tour.

i thought it was so much fun! not only did i get to taste their great breads and cakes, i also got to learn a lot about their company and philosophy. everyone was very nice and great company!
    •  Awesome! Thanks Cecilia for organizing - Ricardo really outdid himself. Amazingly delicious samples!
    •  This is the BEST meet-up I have EVER gone too. Simple as that
    •  It could not have been better! Ricardo, the owner, gave a supurb presentation of the entire workings of the facility, and introduced their pastry chef from France (via Mexico) who explained how they integrate the basics of mexican sweet baking with the french pastry philosophy to bring us the outstanding treats that we were fortunate to sample. This business is first rate all the way - giving careful consideration to every facet of the business - from layout and procurement (organic coffee from Oaxaca imported and roasted specifically for them), to execution. The presentation was first rate, with a sampling menu and verbal introductions for each item tasted. I hiighly recommend going out of your way to experience the treasures of La Monarca Bakery!
