Okay, I know some of you foodies also read comic books and watch sci fi and fantasy TV and movies. Its okay to be BOTH a foodie and a geek!
I've been going to Comic Con since the early 90's before Hollywood discovered it as a vehicle to promote their TV shoes and movies. Now its become the largest pop culture event in the world with over 100,000 attendees in a span of 4 days.
I always take 3 days off from work as vacation to attend during the week to avoid the weekend crush of humanity. Even then, its still crowded. Best way to get a taste of Comic Con if you have never attended is to attend Preview Night on Weds, July 22nd.
I will be lining up around 3 PM, although the doors don't officially open until 6 PM that night. It gives me the opportunity to plan my itinerary for the next 2 days. I can show you a lot of the tips and tricks I have learned from many years of attending. Where to see the A List movie stars, where to get autographs, where to find artwork, how to fight for freebies and collectibles, etc. This way you are better prepared to roam on your own on Thurs and Friday.
You need to purchase your pre-registartion through: http://www.comic-con....
I would recommend getting the 4 day registration which is $75. Comic Con sold out about 2 months before the actual start date and I suspect the same will happen again this year. So don't delay if you do plan to attend. You'll also need to book your hotel reservations ASAP if you do plan to stay overnight. I stay over with a friend, so that's not an issue for me.
I can also recommend the best places to eat, although most of the best places to eat are not walking distance from the Convention Center. The Gaslamp district and and surrounding area is mostly a tourist trap, but there are some hidden gems I have discovered that I can share with you.
