    • Payment includes dinner, a selection of cheeses and accutrements for the Pre-Dinner Cheese & Wine Hour, and after-dinner coffee.  GRATUITY IS NOT INCLUDED.

    • No refunds will be issued if you are a No Show to the event, or if you cancel with less than 72 hours notice.Since this is a private pop-up dining event, credit cards will NOT be accepted.

Looking for an adventurous dinner party? This combines fine dining cuisine and a great social setting. Feel free to network, talk or listen to new friends at a communal table.

I first learned about Chef Kevin Meehan and his Kali Dining back in July 2012.  I ended up hosting a dinner last September during the last incarnation of Kali Dining in Culver City, and it was such a fun time as the dinner became a private one for my party of 8 (the other party, a party of 4, canceled.)

When Chef Meehan announced dates for his current pop-up run, and that the location this time would be in downtown LA, I jumped at the opportunity to host a birthday dinner for one of my friends.  With the 14 of us, Chef Meehan was more than happy to close the reservations for the night of our dinner so that we can have a private dinner party.  With most attendees bringing a bottle of wine or two, and I picked up a few imported cheeses with almonds and toast points, we were able to have a fun Happy Hour chatting up a storm with one another before dinner service.  During dinner, we were served a lovely 4-course dinner with an amuse bouche, and the portion sizes were quite generous.  After dinner, Chef Meehan was more than happy to join us for more stimulating conversation.  It was a great evening, and I would like to replicate this evening, but for Pleasure Palate and Gay Foodie members.

Menus are created on a daily basis and change on a daily basis.  Below is that was served to my dinner party in January:

amuse - jidori scrambled egg in shell / truffle caviar pearls

first - roasted sunchoke soup / artichoke / crumbs / pepper chantilly

second - caramelized scallop / beet risotto / vanilla / candied ginger

third - beef tenderloin / burnt onion jam / smoked fingerling potatoes / leek confit / parsley paste

dessert - chevre mousse / pistachio / citrus / honey

Unfortunately, due to his increased popularity and demand, this will not be a "private dining "event as we had in February -- will be dining with another MeetUp foodie group.  If possible, I will post the menu for our dinner here as soon as it is available.

Parking in a private lot will be available and included in the email that will be sent out to all attendees the night before.  Street Parking is also available as are surrounding paid private lots nearby the location of the pop-up.  I will email all attendees the address and information needed for this evening, including the menu, so that you will be able to bring wines that will pair well with the food.

    From Kali Dining's website:

"Chef Kevin Meehan grew up on Long Island, spent his weekends saltwater fishing by day...and sneaking off to NYC by night. After years spent destroying his mother’s kitchen, it seemed only natural that he translate his love for food into a job…  at a fast food restaurant! Ironically, this is where his passion for working “the line” began. This experience led him to enroll in a top culinary school on the East Coast, straight out of high school. After four years of intense study he packed up and moved to Europe where “Working under the world’s best in a Michelin starred restaurant in Brussels was initially an eye-opener -- ultimately a life changer!”

Meehan spent the next decade refining his craft working tireless hours in America's elite restaurants, being mentored by renowned chefs in the kitchens of Mirabelle, L’Orangerie, Bastide, and Patina to name a few. Leading the kitchen at Café Pinot for the past several years was a great opportunity for Kevin, garnering him exposure and top honors on Food Network's “Extreme Chef” and winning him the “Best French Food 2011” accolade in the Downtown News.

Kevin was also inspired by his recent trip to Japan and Korea where he toured myriad restaurants and encountered endless new flavors. He was intrigued by the small “Omakase Style” restaurants, with their intimate dining atmosphere and direct connection with the guests. He feels his contemporary style of Californian Cuisine, with its seasonally driven menus and strong focus on technique, lends itself well to this boutique style of dining.

Chef Kevin is very excited about his new project, Kali Dining: “It will bring strangers into the homes of others to enjoy food and wine in an intimate setting.  "I can't wait to create a ‘Dinner Party’ where I can share the culinary philosophies I have learned, showcase fresh local foods and ingredients, and foster a tasty environment for new and old friends alike!”
