Dim Sum Brunch at Five Star Seafood (formerly New Capital) in San Gabriel

Please Make Note of Pleasure Palate Attendance Policies and our 3 Strikes Rule by clicking here before RSVP-ing to this Event. Cancelling your RSVP within 24 hours or not showing up at the event without contacting the Organizer ahead of time will result in a strike. 3 Strikes and You're Out!

We will be dining"Family Style." The food bill will be split evenly amongst all attendees. Attendees will be responsible for paying for their own beverages. Please note that flexibility is an important part of family-style dining, and if you want to take a chance on attending, you have to be amenable to what the group will order. You don't have to eat everything that is ordered, but everyone pays equally, whether you eat everything or not. The goal for family-style dining is to allow for the entire group to sample as wide a variety of dishes as possible.  If one or more attendees choose to order on their own, that limits the group's choices, which defeats the purpose of what Family-Style Dining is all about. If this definition of Family-Style Dining doesn't feel comfortable, this may not be the right type of event for you.

One can never have too much dim sum, can they?  Anyhow, I thought I'd host one more dim sum brunch before Chinese New Year springs upon us on February 10th, and you can bet for the rest of the month of February, restaurants are going to be packed day and night with families and friends celebrating the newly arrived Year of the Snake.

It's been a while since I last ate at New Capital Seafood in the Focus Plaza for their discounted dim sum.  Since then, the restaurant has underwent a change in management and, since August 2012, has renamed Five Star Seafood (at least they renamed the English moniker, the Chinese one remains the same).

According to Yelp Reviewers, nothing much has changed aside from just the name.  You can read those reviews here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/new-capital-seafood-restaurant-san-gabriel.  So, let's stop by and see for ourselves.  With most dim sum dishes expected to be around $2.39 per plate, the anticipated cost per person is $15.00, depending on how much food we order, any beverages, plus tax and gratuity.  However, you should bring at least $25 in CASH (small bills preferred) to pay for your portion of the bill.

Please arrive on time, as this dim sum palace is very popular, and a wait for a table can start as early as 10:30am.  We will meet in the lobby of the restaurant (4th Floor of the Focus Plaza) until our number is called an a table or 2 is ready for our party.  As always, please call or text me on my cell phone (which will be emailed to all attendees the night before this event) if you arrive before I do, or are running late, or are lost.

This dim sum was so much better than New Capital. Thanks so much Sklar. I loved that the dishes you ordered included some really great new items only available at select times. And such a great value!

Despite what someone said, the food was still good and a bargain. 52 dishes of dim sum later, total came out to only $12.50 per person, and thank you everyone for showing up!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
