MUSIC AND DANCE THIS SATURDAY MAY 4 in Manhattan with the Music and Dance Circle, a subsidiary of the Open Music Circle, at 6:30 -8:30 PM. We will have some special guests, including John Sarantos, Native American flute teacher now offering classes at the Open Center. The Circle is a gathering place for acoustic improv musicians, vocalists, and dancers to create together. The structure is as follows: we start sitting in silence. Then we warm up with a short group improv. We may next engage in a few musical exercises to test and improve our listening skills. Then we return to a group improv for an extended period. In this someone begins, then we each play, vocalize or move as we each feel appropriate, paying attention to the others as we play, vocalize or move. Finally we sit in silence again, and after this we share experiences. Throughout dancers, musicians and vocalists interact with and respond freely to each other. At the end of the evening there is an opportunity to make announcements. The form is simple but usually takes us to a satisfying and healing place. Join at www.meetup.com/musicanddancecircle. We meet at New York Insight Meditation Center, 28 West 27th Street, 10th Fl., www.nyimc.org.
