The Cantos: Pound & Co. Reading Group

There are James Joyce reading groups here in New York. There is a prominent Proust reading group. There are Dante, Cervantes, and Shakespeare societies. There are Tolkien gatherings, and soon there will be Harry Potter groups assembling, no doubt.

Ezra Pound's _Cantos_ are, like _Finegans Wake_ and _A la Recherche du Temps Perdu,_ a difficult and dense?and rewarding work of literature.

I am considering leading a _Cantos_ read-through and discussion, rather like the _Finnegans Wake_ reading groups. Ezra Pound certainly had a wide-ranging and broadly inclusive mind, as did James Joyce, but when a _Cantos_ read-through has been effected (assuming such a group might be viable and survive until then), we might go on to other unserved worthies, such as Zukofsky's _A_, David Jones' _Anathemata_, Basil Bunting's _Briggflats_, and others.

CAVEAT: This is not intended to be a rah-rah session for EP's economic theories, nor will anti-Semitism be welcome. Too often, EP discussions are co-opted by people who think that the _Cantos_ serve them well as a social manifesto. If you lean that way, start your own Meetup. This is about poetry, beautiful and difficult, per il miglior fabbro.
