Black Ice is a poet from Russell Simmons's Def Poetry Jam. His poems, which frequently involve racial and social issues, combine hip-hop flow with rich vocabulary to create a unique style. At a gig in New York City, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons caught his act and the poet's quest for nationwide recognition kicked into overdrive. Black Ice went on to appear on five consecutive seasons of the Simmons-produced Def Poetry Jam on HBO, which led to a starring role in the Tony Award-winning "Def Poetry Jam on Broadway." He was the 1st poet to be signed to Def Jam Records.
