Black Ice is a poet from Russell Simmons's Def Poetry Jam. His poems, which frequently involve racial and social issues, combine hip-hop flow with rich vocabulary to create a unique style. At a gig in New York City, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons caught his act and the poet's quest for nationwide recognition kicked into overdrive. Black Ice went on to appear on five consecutive seasons of the Simmons-produced Def Poetry Jam on HBO, which led to a starring role in the Tony Award-winning "Def Poetry Jam on Broadway." He was the 1st poet to be signed to Def Jam Records.

Graffiti Dc adds flair to the D.C. night life, as poets from around the country compete for a spot in the final slam where another $1,000 grand prize is up for grabs. Poets compete through two rounds of elimination style competitive poetry, where they have three minutes to spill their hearts out on the stage. Five judges, score the poets between 0.0 to 10.0 based on creativity, content, and overall performance. At the end of the night, the winning poet with the highest score receives $50 prize and a slot for the Grand Slam finale which will occur on May 22nd 2013, for a chance to win the $1000 Grand Prize.
