Poetry Workshop

Thought we'd try a different location. The Old Wives Tale is a restaurant with a pretty big room. If you want to come and just have a coffee, or water, I think that would be fine. I thought we'd try an exercise in learning the poetic form of acrostics. Acrostics is a form of poetry where the first letter of each word in each line reading vertically makes a word on the front side and the back side of each line. Here is an example:

Many times I
Yelled across the cosmoS
Not knowing to whoM
And/or what everlasting top bananA
Men had sought in faR
EternitY

The vertical lines on the front read "My Name" and the words formed by the last letter reading vertically is "Is Mary."

Try using your first name for the front end of a poem and perhaps your last name for the back end reading down, or if there is a phrase you live by try putting that in an acrostic. I'm curious to see what people come up with. We will also discuss other poetry forms so feel free to bring some of your work. Looking forward to trying this new place and exercise.

See you there!

Had a lot of fun sharing the results of the Acrostic challenge and then participating in an impromptu free write!

This was a smaller group than usual, but we enjoyed the time discussing our acrostics and different literary forms.
