Humor and Satire in Poetry

Poetry has often gotten a bad rap (excuse the pun) as being an exclusively serious literary medium that focuses on such topics as love, death, depression, anxiety, philosophical questions, in a serious tone. Humor and satire have often not been considered valid forms of expression, but I contend that humor is what opens minds and invites conversation on a wide number of topics. Please join us for a fun filled day of humor and satire in poetry. From the often dismissed humorous ramblings of Jonathan Swift to the dark humorous muses of Edgar Allen Poe, we shall look at how great poets of their times used humor and satire to explore issues that may have not been so readily accepted through traditional means. If you personally write humorous poems or even rudimentary limericks, please bring them. This should be a fun morning!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
