High, I am Naida, and I am excited to announce that we are going to try something new:
Poems and Prompts Meet Ups
Meeting on alternate Sundays from the usual Poems and Coffee Meet Up, the Poems and Prompts Meet Up will be structured similar to the Write Around Portland writing workshops, focusing on both generating new writing and developing the writing and revision.
It will consist of a series of Meet ups with timed free-writes (8 to 20 minutes, probably 2-3 per meeting, depending on how many attend), each with a suggested prompt, which could be anything from a picture, a line from a poem, or even borrowing a line from another member’s writing. Group members are encouraged to write stories, poems, memoirs, letters, essays while experimenting with imagery, writing in different voices, dialogue and early-draft revision, and from there refine selected pieces to a finished poem.
Group members are encouraged to share favorite poems from other writers, and bring their own suggested prompts.
Also, all are welcome to share their own writings, and give and receive positive feedback (as requested) to help each other grow as poets and build respectful community.
