Dear Friends: After six months of reaching the heights of the best variety open mic in the Valley, 140-some registered performers, the highest level of talent, packing the space with the most attentive and appreciative audience, and a 5-star rating, I am sorry to report that we suddenly and unexpectedly lost our venue. Three Roots cafe on Mill Avenue has become the latest victim of the economy. Thus I'm sorry to report that our open mics are temporarily cancelled.

I remain dedicated to providing talented local performing artists a venue for showcasing their work, building their networks, collaborating with other local artists, and promoting their cds, books, gigs, and recitals. And I remain dedicated to providing this free night of thought-provoking entertainment to our audience. I will continue to pay for this website and will be actively searching for a new venue in the Fall. If you remain a member of this website, you will receive an automatic notification when we find our new venue and schedule our next open mic (hopefully very soon). Thank you for the generous contributions of your talent, enthusiasm, and support and please STAY TUNED.

Sincerely,
Lynda

Read on if you are interested in helping me find a venue: We bring A LOT of publicity and business to our venue, so I believe that we can be fussy! Thus, we are NOT interested in a bar venue, because the talent is treated as background entertainment. (This may work to some degree with music, but rarely works for other forms of entertainment.) We want to keep our higher-level coffee shop environment and audience. Thus, we are seeking a gallery, theatre, or coffee shop in Tempe or close by with enough space to accommodate our enthusiastic audience (hopefully with Friday evening 7-10 availability once a month). If you know of a venue that meets these criteria, please e-mail me your suggestion. Thanks for your help!

________________________________________________
This all-ages (17-over), multiple-genre, performance showcase in the East Valley is an open mic, with acoustic music, poetry, hand percussion, monologues, comedy, instrumental solos, puppetry, skits, etc. We welcome all performers, professional to closeted. It's a great way to network with other local artists, build your mailing lists, & plug your gigs/recitals/cds/books! We also welcome audience enthusiasts who are interested in a free evening of different forms of thought-provoking performance art, while supporting local artists.

The where and when: 2nd Friday of each month, 7 - 10 PM at Three Roots Cafe in Tempe. We're intimately set up for acoustic work (2 mics) and work on a rotation list (one song, poem, etc., 5 minute limit per round), to promote variety & help ensure that everyone gets mic time. PARKING is easy. Three Roots owns the small dirt lot directly behind the cafe, and you can also park in the large, paved Church lot on the SOUTH side of their building. Performers & audience enthusiasts: Sign up as a member today to receive automatic e-mail notification of our open mics!

What members are saying

The group seems open and friendly. There was ample time for performers in 5 minute sets in a round robin format. Most performers did three five minute sets. It was all well organized and well run.

The variety and talent of local musicians and performers is astounding.

“Hi, I am an avid acoustic guitarist/vocalist performer/songwriter. I am also a rhapsody satirist which means I have a way with words and can ramble nicely. I am also an organizer for a meetup group in the east valley and like to network”
