2008 No-Limit Texas Holdem Championship

WHAT: 2nd Annual No-Limit Texas Holdem Championship. To see reviews of the 2007 Championship, please visit the following:

WHO: Open to all members of this Meetup Group and their guests. Must be 21 with ID. You do not need to have "qualified" to participate in this Open Tournament.

WHEN: Sun., Jan. 4th 2009

RSVP: Please RSVP if you are sure you're coming so we have a reasonably accurate estimate of attendance.

WHERE / TRANS: Dave & Busters, 1030 N. Clark St. Chicago. Red Line El-Subway stops at Division 2 blocks north. 22 bus at front door, 36 Broadway bus runs nearby. 10 minutes and $7 to 10 by taxi from Union Station.

TIME: Registration starts at 2pm. We'll shuffle up and deal at 230pm

GAME: No-Limit Texas Holdem. Pursuant to Roberts Rules of Poker and the guidelines of the Poker Tournament Directors Association.

DOUBLE ELIMINATION: This tournament will be played "double elimination". Upon first bust-out all players will receive a re-entry stack equal to 30 X the next big blind level. Those players not requiring a re-entry will receive an add-on equal to the current re-entry amount at break/color-up. This arrangement gives all players 2 full opportunities to win, and effectively means that to win the tournament, the champion will have to "beat everyone twice", leaving no doubt they deserve the title.

FREE: This event is free, there is no buy-in or other entry fee. No gambling.

AWARDS: Strictly for entertainment purposes, no cash awards, trophies, bar tabs, or other prizes. No gambling.

I'm always impressed by the quality of the play involved. The final table didn't finish until nearly 930. There was alot of drama, everyone played great and made Rob earn it!

this was my very first time ever playing poker. i read a book once in college and we are talking over thirty years ago. i got some info about texas holdem from online read it and off i went. i finished at one of the last three tables. with real money i think i would have been more frugal. i like poker, doc holiday style.

Don't misunderstand my feedback. I had a great time as well. I'd hope we could organize something soon again.

Round tables, if available. Provide a volunteer all-time dealer who knows the rules of the game and can count. Provide a venue that is a bit more accomodating with the service. Or ask those that rsvp for a flat donation that could cover the cost of renting "bar service" for a few hours. That way, there are No table tabs that have to be watched like a hawk.
