Re: [polish-121] The future of the Polish meetup of Washington

Dear Members,

My name is Marcin Zmudzki.  Mary Frances Kornak has handed over the Organizer role to me.  Thank you for belonging to this group.  I'll try to keep this group alive and interesting for you for a while.  Eventually I'll hand it over to someone else, but first I'd like to try a few new ideas.  I've already changed our group's name to Poles and Friends of Poland in the Washington-Baltimore Area and added a new group description, a new welcome letter and new topics to the group's profile to broaden our appeal.  You may notice that I've even played around with a new color pattern for our group's website.  Our group's new address is now

You can bookmark it.  I won't change it again  :-)  Please do me and everyone a favor and share this address with your local friends who are either Polish or might be interested in this group for some other reason.  I'm particularly interested in seeing if Meetup can be useful in reaching out to people who are Polish or interested in Polish language, culture or heritage, but do not belong to any Polish organizations yet.  With that in mind, I'd like to continue collecting information about how involved you are in the Polish community, but I'd like to use an online poll instead of email.  The new poll is on our group's website at

I took advantage of Meetup's 50% discount offer and paid this group's site fees for the next six months.  I hope to recoup this cost by collecting voluntary membership dues from members and raising financial support from sponsors.  I think that membership fees should not be mandatory and I don't intend to give anyone any guilt trips about not contributing.  Right now my priority is to develop the group's program of activities for the future and link it with the existing Polish community on the ground.

I've re-added Mary Frances to the Leadership Team as an Event Organizer so that she can remain involved in our group and I've added two other ladies to the Leadership Team.  The two ladies' profiles on Meetup are Kamila and Miarka.  If you attend Polish Global Village happy hours, you may already know them.  If you'd like to join this group's Leadership Team or host a single event, please let me know via private email at [address removed] or via the Meetup site.

Wish me luck!  I will moderate this discussion from now on.  Feel free to send me comments and suggestions about this group's direction via email or

Marcin Zmudzki
