Philosophy and Humanity Meetup

  • Aug 3, 2014 · 1:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We changed the name to better reflect that any aspect of philosophy is relevant to this Meetup, including traditional and modern views of philosophical questions. We invite anyone who is interested - you don't need a degree in philosophy to participate!

Relevant discussion topics include any aspect of: (a) ethics (what things are good? what things are good for us to do, for ourselves or others? (b) the nature of knowledge (how do we know what is true?) (c) the nature of art and beauty; (d) the nature of the universe, life, the place of life in the universe, etc.

At the beginning of our discussions, people suggest possible topics, and then we pick one to discuss that day. We can also consider choosing a topic ahead of time for our next Meetup.

We meet the first Sunday of each month, 1:30 - 3:30 in York. We usually go out to dinner after the Meetup; also, we sometimes go to movies as a group, and have some other activities - we can do some other things as a group, such as go to museums, historic sites, etc. If you have other suggestions, let us know.

Thanks Mike. I will try to make this meetup. Have family coming that weekend but should be gone by Sunday afternoon. :) Unfortunately most weeks I have martial arts in the early afternoon (closer to Lancaster) so usually wouldn't be able to make the 1:30. But I'll see what I can do in the future if I like this meetup.

    • Mike in Y.

Hi, Natasha. We usually go to a restaurant that is just a few minutes away from the bookstore where we meet. I'll send you more information separately. Mike
