Holi (Festival of Colors) on the Beach

Its an Indian festival to throw colors at each other. Happens every year in March at Santa Monica Beach. I have been there last year, whole event was total blast.

Weather, Colors, Live Music and Beach makes an ultimate combination.

    Location and Directions:

Will Rogers State Beach is located on the Pacific Coast Highway between Santa Monica and Malibu. The entrance to Will Roger's State Beach is at the junction of Temescal Canyon Rd. and Pacific Coast Highway.
When entering the beach coming from PCH 1 South via a left turn, you may face a heavy bottleneck. Workaround is coming to the beach via a detour (via Topanga Canyon Blvd) or one of the side streets. Our event is located between towers 5 & 6. Parking Tips:
Once you enter Will Rogers State Beach and make a right, there is ample parking at the Parking Lot (Paid-around $10 CASH !!!) If you wish to find cheaper or free parking, try to find parking on the streets around the beach venue and walk half or one block to the beach.

Lets meet by the Washroom area right next to the parking lot. Looking forward to have fun with colorful people !!!

In case the map doesnt show the free parking space, take 4th north of Colorado and the lot entrance is immediately on your left. There is two or three hours for free

According to some sights Ive looked up tickets were needed to be purchased. The cost covers refreshment and powders. If we are just shooting, do we need to buy a ticket? Im going to go there and try anyway without a ticket. I'll bring my[masked] lens with a couple diff size converters as well as my standard lens.

Sorry Debbie didn't see this on time. When I asked the host, they expect us to buy a ticket. But in any case its a open beach and think you will be ok. I wont mind sharing my colors and refreshment with you :) Look forward to see you.

I don't know what this will be like, never been there nor cared for, but if this is anything like color-run, then please look at this first. www.lensrentals.com/blog/2013/05/how-to-ruin-your-gear-in-5-minutes-without-water

You can get waterproof rainsleeves on ebay, 2/$6. Or use an underwater case, or a waterproof bag. Im using the rainsleeves and taping the opening around the lens hood

Last year I have seen Photographers taking shots from the Santa Monica jogging track or Slope towards the strand. I would not get into the crowd. I would highly recommend enjoying the festival too...Get yourself a white shirt and blend in. Colors are temporary and will go away with one quick shower.
