Miser Monday 2 Miler - Forest Park

  • This 2+ mile trek is conjoined with the first part of the fitness trek. The goal here is to enable an opportunity for persons interested in increasing their pace and stamina (2.5+mph) over a relatively short distance - about 2 or so miles. If this sounds about right for you please read below and hopefully you can join us. We are a outdoor community of like-minded people looking to help each other foster and grow and welcome your spirit and your company. (Two people can also elect to continue on our 8-10 miles Fitness Trek and exit back on their own accord. Find your peeps and join us!)

    START: Wallace Park under the covered area by restrooms adjacent to the off leash dog park at the corner of NW 25th and NW Raleigh. There should be plenty of parking along Pettygrove and also in the Chapman School east bound bus loading zone on Raleigh. Two full blocks are dedicated for community use that enable street parking so as a courtesy please avoid using the residential side of the streets whenever possible.

    DEPARTING: 10:35 am

    END: End of NW Pettygrove @ Cornell (About a block from Wallace park.)

    DISTANCE: About a 2 -2.5 mile loop. DURATION: About an hour. PACE: Moderately Fast: 2.5 mph or more.

    NOTE: Fitness levels vary greatly and "easy" and "difficult". are relative terms. Please review and choose hikes carefully and know your comfy mph pace over distance and terrain. This trek is relatively short but much of this section is on a steady incline and we will truck - and that's good! If you are already used to exercise yet this might be a good way for you to gain some ground then come join us!

    This is a moderately fast paced hike averaging approximately 2.5 mph or more and is intended as a fitness workout. It is not for meanders, casual strollers, or those not already physically active. From Wallace Park we work our way to the Forest Park/Lower Macleay Trailhead and from there we push uphill to Cornell Dr. just east of the Audubon Center. From here we either walk the shoulder of Cornell to the Pettygrove stairs or we cross Cornell, pick-up the Wildwood to the Tunnel trail back to Cornell, and the top of the Pettygrove steps. Wallace Park is just two blocks away.

    • Please dress appropriately and be prepared for changing weather conditions: cold, wet, and/or shine. In mid 40 degree temps it can be hot and sweaty going up (the fun part when you can peel off an outer layer) and cool coming down (the really fun part when you can put the outer layer back on.) Do not wear cotton, do dress in layers, wear suitable shoes for mud and traction, and carry water.
