March Theme : : Propaganda

Propaganda is most well known in the form of war posters. But at its core, it is a mode of communication aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position, and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Although propaganda is often used to manipulate human emotions by displaying facts selectively, it can also be very effective at conveying messages. (from Smashing Magazine - by Claire Stokoe)

Cindy Surendorf has graciously offered to host the March meetup at Q Center as she has a show currently on display in the Q Center gallery:

Surendorf Art Foundation presents:

“Propaganda Art - Then and Now” Student Art Show Art Show at the Q Center’s Aaron Hall Gallery 4115 N. Mississippi Ave. Portland, OR February 24th through April 27, 2013 www.surendorf2artfoundation.org

Here are a couple of links about the show:

Hope to see you there!

Dues paid at this meetup will be donated to the Surendorf Art Foundation.

Johnny, I couldn't stay either. But I enjoyed your art. Not to be a snob in commenting but you have great potential. Keep painting.

I am so sorry that I missed the Meet-Up yesterday I was really interested in hearing about Cindy's father's work and the foundation. Unfortunately a client needed to meet up yesterday. An indication this homebuying season will be a doozy. However I did prepare a pice and will share the photo! I look forward to see others photos and catching you all at the next one.

Thank you to everyone who came and shared their work and allow me to share my student's and father's work. What passion this topic brought out in all of us, and I am sure we can visit it again in the future.

A wonderful meeting! Thank you Cindy for hosting! The children's art is inspiring... kudos for the good work that you do through the foundation. And your dad's work is fabulous! Love the prints but am blown over by the watercolors!

If I could work (in the co-op) and "do art" in any down time (as in small stuff and sketch booking), I'm up for it. Time to visit the location next before I commit. :) K.

45$ a month = 2 8 hour shifts a month.. 100$ a month = no shifts... In any event everybody gets a space... Jury meetings Wednesday at 6...

      March 23, 2013

      45=3 shifts actually 65=2

Sounds interesting; I want to know more (like how much $, plus amount of space(?), and time commitment etc). Will check the website and thanks for the good idea!

45-100 a month depending on how many hours you want to work in the shop... They take 10 commission... You get 90% not sure about space... Visit the web site... I'm doing 2 8 hour shifts a month for 65$ dues... I can crank out 3-5 works a day...

It is called Artistic Portland... They are seeking artists to become part of their coop team shop at 4049 NE Sandy... Joined up through Etsy... Portlandartisanscoopteam.org ...

If the shop succeeds and I can also buy into a different health plan then I would quit my job in a second freeing up Sundays...

    March 20, 2013

  • Ben G.

I'm not sure how often I can come... But in anyone is interested Artistic Portland a co-op shop needs 4-7 more people to join to open in the Hollywood District

This meetup will still be a show and tell. Bring a piece based on the theme, or any piece of artwork that you want to share with the group. Feel free to bring a food item to share if you like.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
