I'd like to get to know more local artists as well as get encouragement to do more and better work. I also hope to gain some clarity on what I want to focus on in my own work.
My first goal is figuring out exactly what type of art I want to really focus on (I'm a bit scattered currently) but the big picture goal is to be able to do art full time. Shorter term goals include getting more familiar with physical media (I work mostly digitally right now) and being able to render imaginative, expressive scenes in mixed media.
Currently I do a lot of digital painting, mostly expressive portraits and fantasy scenes. I like imaginative realism and surrealism and illustrative art in general. I am also intrigued by abstract/non-representational art and would very much like to do more of that kind of work, especially textural mixed media type work.
It's very hard to pick a favorite. I've loved Caravaggio and other Baroque artists for most of my life but also felt a strong draw to Dalí and the Surrealists as a teenager. These days I'm very interested in illustrative art, imaginative realism, and pop surrealism. I'm a big proponent of illustration as art and contemporary artists I admire include Julie Dillon, Alice X Zhang, and Sam Spratt as well as a more traditional style artist Graszka Paulska.
I'm a former graphic designer who is trying to transition to a more art-focused career.
